Dark Horse Reserve Special Black Bier

12 oz bottle: poured black with zero head after an aggressive pour. Chocolate and a little coffee in the aroma. Chocolate and coffee in the flavor also with a big blast of coffee bitterness in the finish. Can’t say I like it or enjoyed it for that matter.

Bottle from Acknud. Almost black pur wtih a small beige head. Aroma is coffe and molasses with some chocolate too. Taste is chocolate and oatmeal and espresso. Some sweetness and a nice hop finish. Great beer. I do want more!

Super dark brown coloured body with a very thin tan head. About 80-90% opaque with a very viscous look. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavour with strong oatmeal, good coffee and a very potent chocolate taste. Aftertaste shows a lot of caramel and roasted sugars with some malt and even a touch of hops. Overall, a very nice and refreshing beer! If this is truly a porter, it’s more of a baltic porter than anything else. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased recently (03-August-2008) at Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan, sampled a few days later on 10-August-2008.

Poured a luxurious black from the bottle with a creamy tan head. Notes of cocoa in the aroma. Drak cocoa flavor with a malty body and bitter finish.

Jet black in colour with moderate carbonation. Strong roasted malt aroma, along with a hint of molasses. Creamy coffee flavors are apparent, along with a refined Schwarzbier-like malt profile, and a chalky dry finish. Heavy mouthfeel. Oakbluff and I were using this beer as a "palate cleanser", but it turned out to be quite good. Huge thanks to oakbluff for sharing.
