FunkyBrewster (114), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 11, 2008 Pours a dark brownish black with a nice thick tan brown head. Aroma is a bit smoky but mostly rich roasted malt, very strong and sweet. Flavor is just as rich from start to finish. Mostly dark roasted malts and bitter chocolate/coffee with some smokiness in the finish. Nice mouth feel. Thick and full body. Great all around porter, delicious balance of the sweet and the bitter with the smoky flavors.
MrRomero (1879), Wiesbaden-Biebrich, Germany Aug 19, 2008 12 oz bottle: poured black with zero head after an aggressive pour. Chocolate and a little coffee in the aroma. Chocolate and coffee in the flavor also with a big blast of coffee bitterness in the finish. Can’t say I like it or enjoyed it for that matter. daknole (644), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 Bottle from Acknud. Almost black pur wtih a small beige head. Aroma is coffe and molasses with some chocolate too. Taste is chocolate and oatmeal and espresso. Some sweetness and a nice hop finish. Great beer. I do want more! jgb9348 (1817), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Aug 11, 2008 Super dark brown coloured body with a very thin tan head. About 80-90% opaque with a very viscous look. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavour with strong oatmeal, good coffee and a very potent chocolate taste. Aftertaste shows a lot of caramel and roasted sugars with some malt and even a touch of hops. Overall, a very nice and refreshing beer! If this is truly a porter, it’s more of a baltic porter than anything else. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased recently (03-August-2008) at Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan, sampled a few days later on 10-August-2008. nbutler11 (108), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 4, 2008 Poured a luxurious black from the bottle with a creamy tan head. Notes of cocoa in the aroma. Drak cocoa flavor with a malty body and bitter finish. piscator34 (903), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Aug 1, 2008 Jet black in colour with moderate carbonation. Strong roasted malt aroma, along with a hint of molasses. Creamy coffee flavors are apparent, along with a refined Schwarzbier-like malt profile, and a chalky dry finish. Heavy mouthfeel. Oakbluff and I were using this beer as a "palate cleanser", but it turned out to be quite good. Huge thanks to oakbluff for sharing.
