marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Sep 17, 2009 Light mild aroma with some malty scents. Copper brown with whitish head. Brown malt and sweet rye flavors. Light sweet palate with some vegetable notes. danielcurtis81 (868), San Diego, California, USA Sep 13, 2009 BPW #24
Served on tap at Dark Horse Brewing Company. Appearance is a deep amber with a light brown head. Aromas are sweet malt with a light floral aroma, perhaps some roses. Flavors are very herbal and floral with the malt flavors not being as present in the flavor profile. The hops build up on the tongue to produce a nice bitterness on the tongue.
WisconsinBeer (512), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Sep 12, 2009 Tap, Autumn Brew Review 09. Pours a hazy red/orange color, medium head. Flavor is somewhat tart with hints of citrus and cranberries. Dry finish. Not quite amazing enough to put the wood in my pencil, but still not bad. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Sep 11, 2009 Draft at Pizza Plant Transit. Deep amber pour. Herbal spiciness in both the aroma & flavor. Spiciness really livens up the tongue not sure about below the equator. Nice flavorful brew, better than most ambers out there darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Sep 9, 2009 Growler from Kevin. Pours an rather clear amber. Nose is crazy spices I can’t even really pick them out but they work well together, unique and interesting aroma. Flavor is way to hoppy for the style. Smooth but rather thin palate for 7%. I thought this was like 4.5%. Doesn’t really taste like an amber ale, more like a spiced up imperial mild. Still a tasty beer but I don’t think this was good as an amber ale. Scouser (39), Pennsylvania, USA Aug 21, 2009 great balance of hops and malt. nice citrus flavor. pours a nice amber colour. smoothh palate. easy drink, overall good beer! michael-pollack (2597), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 20, 2009 Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of malts, light citrus, light hops, and slight chocolate. Very deep amber/brown in color with a small, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout as a thin film on top. Hazy. Very sparkling. Lightly sweet, light to medium bitter flavor. Tastes of hops, citrus, malts, and grains. Medium body. Slightly dry, slightly chalky texture. Average carbonation. Hop and malt finish is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. hopdog (5523), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 20, 2009 On tap at Capone’s. Ha, ha, should I be enjoying Dark Horse’s Rod? Poured a deeper and cloudy/muddy amberish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of some citrus, toastiness, and a trace of herbalness. Tastes of stronger herbalness, toasted grains, citrus, and some caramel. The herbs are definitely more present in the tastes.
