COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

Bottle. I got banana right off the bat. Smooth and light, even for a tripel. Clove notes do come through at the end. Not bad; not great.

Tap at Ray J’s in NE Mpls. Clear orange or maybe a dark gold tripel served up in a snifter glass. Smell is...not good. Like a beer that’s been left out to parish under a hot sun. Unfortunately, the taste follows suit. Just not a good rendition of a tripel. Tastes bitter and a little like rotten fruit. Splurge for an actual Belgian instead.

Tap@Fermentoren - Fuzzy golden pour, with small dissipating white head. Sweet fruits in taste and aroma, sweet doughy yeasts, sweet malts, grassy, some slight clove in the finish. Bit sweet for my palate overall.

Tap: golden-yellow body with some mild amber tones; almost completely opaque with a bone-white head that quickly drifts away. Aroma is full of clove, subdued fruit, over-ripe bananas, taffy, malty & residual sweetness, Belgian yeast, light bread... you can smell the low attenuation. You can taste it, too. Banana esters, light apple skins, brown sugar, clove, coriander, a zesty hit of bread-y yeast, & an alcohol character that grows with warmth. Light bubblegum, banana taffy, & phenol aftertaste. Not as robust as many other tripels, but still decent.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Yoav. Pours hazy golden-orange with a small head. Aroma - fruity and alcoholic. Very sweet, with very light fruity flavors in it, some off-flavors. Medium-bodied.

12 oz bottle with cryptic stamp on neck served in a Paulaner Weissbier glass. Pours slightly hazy amber with a large frothy white head. Good retention and lacing effects. Aroma: sweet and spicy banana notes; yeasty with some wheat. Not what I’d expect for style. Taste: lightly sweet with a pronounced, but not overpowering fruitiness that mainly consists of banana. Bready malts with a clear contribution from wheat. Alcohol esters reveal the high ABV. Feel: soft, medium-light body. O: strange tripel that tastes more like an eisbock or hefe-weizen than a Belgian Tripel.
