COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

Unbelievable price on this stuff. A nice Belgian tripel with all the trim and lace. Nothing that really sets it apart from other tripels, but very solidly done. I could drink a lot and at this price, why not?

pours almost clear bright golden with a nice white head, some retention and lacing - pretty weak some might say for a tripel. very fruity and spicy belgian yeast esters, some phenols - lots of bananas in fact, very clovey and minty - some coriander and other aromatic herbs too, honey and riesling sweetness, boozy grape juice, woodsiness - hint of vanilla. average carbonation - could be brighter, light to medium body - oily, very boozy and assertive if not aggressive grassy-spicy-piney finish. american tripel - intriguingly uncommon.

Draught at Euston Tap, London on 16 Dec 2012. Poured a hazy ochre colour, with a dense white head. Aroma of bananas, cloves and soft fruit. Spicy flavours, some peppery hop and Belgian-esque yeast esters. Finish was tinned fruit, lemon zest, bready malt and some grassy hop.

On Tap. Poured a cloudy orange with very slight head. Peach and light sweet aroma, banana, clove. Taste is sweet. Mouthfeel oily. Slight alcohol tow. Very good for the style.

Dark cloudy orange color with small off-white head and little oily lacing. Aroma and flavor are very spicy, with clove, banana, and an earthy yeastiness. Okay overall

Bottle pour. There is an extremely spicy note to this tripel. Clove and banana dominate here, with a yeastiness that comes right through. Has a dustiness to the mouthfeel. Good but muddled in a sense.

12 ounce bottle into chalice, bottled on 5/6/2014. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of apricot, orange, golden raisin, pear, apple, light banana, clove, pepper, biscuit, candi sugar, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast ester and bready malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of apricot, orange, golden raisin, pear, apple, light banana, clove, biscuit, candi sugar, herbal, floral, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of apricot, golden raisin, pear, apple, light banana, clove, biscuit, candi sugar, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast and bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and fairly crisp/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice tripel style. All around good complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast and bready malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours a light gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast and a bite of alcohol. Cloves dominate the flavor, and there’s also some sweet Belgian yeast, but the finish is dry. Part of me enjoyed this, but another found the light body and the too strong character from the spice less enjoyable. Overall just okay.

I picked up floral and spice notes in the aroma. Wheat, slight fruit, spiciness on the taste and finishes dry and boozy. Average Tripel.

Dark and hazy pour. Has a sweet and spicy aroma. It had a mix of spiciness, alcohol, and cloves. The cloves really dominate, and left a harsh after taste. Not for me...
