COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

This starts with an aroma that doesn’t quite match the style. There’s some of the Belgian spice, with a stronger sweet aroma. Pours a cloudy dark amber, with almost no head. I’m not sure if I would say the flavor is traditional... there’s a bitterness in the finish that stands out. The spice is there to start with, but quickly fades. It’s interesting, not sure if I’m planning on getting it again.

Poured a hazy golden amber. Little yeast cake left chunked in the bottle. Not the huge first bite I expect from a Tripel. Pretty mellow with a sweet clear orange that stands out. Not near what I expected, however a decent drinking Tripel. Restated, probably won’t seek out out as a first choice when looking for a Tripel, but certainly wouldn’t turn down a fresh pint.

Pours a honey amber color with a small head. Aroma of fruits like banana, cloves and some alcohol. Taste is more fruits, some bitterness and more alcohol. Average beer that needs something else.

On tap at BST. Cloudy gold pour with a white head. Belgian yeast, candy, banana and spice in the aroma and taste. Very nice true to form tripel with the complexity you would expect from the style.

pours almost clear bright golden with a nice white head, some retention and lacing - pretty weak some might say for a tripel. very fruity and spicy belgian yeast esters, some phenols - lots of bananas in fact, very clovey and minty - some coriander and other aromatic herbs too, honey and riesling sweetness, boozy grape juice, woodsiness - hint of vanilla. average carbonation - could be brighter, light to medium body - oily, very boozy and assertive if not aggressive grassy-spicy-piney finish. american tripel - intriguingly uncommon.
