COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

Pours a murky darkish yellow with a little orange. Decent sized head. Belgian yeast aroma and fruit come through big. Bananas, cloves, melon, and berries. The fruit and Belgian yeast are a little overpowering in the taste. Light sweetness and a little tart in the finish. Belgian yeast taste lingers for a while. Definitely better than the average triple but the overpowering yeast keeps it from bring really good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2012 Drank at the Newtown Brewfest. I loved this beer. It was a really nice blend of Belgian yeast, toast, fruit and clove. The finish was sweet, but not overbearing.

On tap at Busters. Pours hazy creamy bright amber with little white collar. Aroma is fruity yeast citrus and strong orange peel and booze. Taste is all the above with the booze really turning me off. Palate is medium somewhat creamy and slick with a dry finish. I really enjoyed how bright the citrus was in this one, but the booze really made this go the other way for me.

12 oz bottle, acquired in trade w/queenholly. Pours an ugly creamy/amber color. If you’ve ever had the misfortune of having a car blow a head gasket & seen what antifreeze mixed with oil looks like, thats what it looks like. It gets better from there. Nice fruity, yet sweet aroma. A touch of funk. Malty, sweet taste with dark fruit. More funk. A little spice. Everyones mentioning cloves, but I don’t detect any clove. Moderate palate. Pretty tasty.

12 ounce bottle into chalice, no bottle dating (presumed to be last years batch with the older label). Pours cloudy golden orange color with a small off white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some minimal spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of orange, apricot, pepper, herbal, clove, banana, amber candi sugar, caramel, biscuit, molasses, and yeast spices. Some pretty good aromas with good balance, complexity, and decent strength. Taste of biscuit, orange, apricot, raisin, candi sugar, banana, toffee, herbal, clove, light pepper, toast, bubblegum, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of citrus, candi sugar, biscuit, clove, pepper, toffee, and toast for a good bit. More of a malty tripel than most of the style; but there is great flavor balance and absolutely no cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel that is very nice. Very smooth to sip; with no alcohol warming noticed other than a slight warming after the finish. Overall this is a really nice tripel. Despite the fact I like spicier tripels; the flavor complexity and balance was pretty much spot on. Really enjoyable stuff!

tap pour at brewery...murky yellow pour with loads of particulates. thin off white head. aroma is yeasty, banana, bready and slightly funky. flavor is quite boozy, banana, yeasty, some bubble gum, and the clove is evident late. not the smoothest brew I’ve had, but had refreshing feel to it. good, but a notch below what I was expecting out of this one.
