dukefan (160), Aurora, Illinois, USA Apr 17, 2008 From a growler. Big, big, almost cloyingly sweet Tripel. Not a favorite in this style, but certainly is a party starter. Reasonable spice in this - just not enough to fight the sweetness. While very good, not "dry" enough like my favorite Tripels.
SQNfan (384), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jul 16, 2008 Light golden in color with a thin head that dissipated quickly. Aromas of funky herb and citrus. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and rich but fairly simple and candied...really candied! AndrewKScott (237), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jul 9, 2008 Updated: Jul 10, 2008I kind of hated Dark Horse’s amber so I avoided this for a while. Golden pour with some head, aroma is very fruity and spicy. The taste is a perfect example of a tripel. Citrus, honey, spice, etc. I must say, I’m glad dark horse changed their summer ale from a wheat to a tripel, because it is ultimately much better. Mouthfeel is thick and finish is sweet, although I like the sweetness. Good ale. igneous1 (1360), Davenport, Iowa, USA Jul 3, 2008 yellowish-golden color, moderately cloudy, thin almond-colored head. aroma is very fruity, lots of lemon, some caramel, some alcohol, and decent spice (slightly bubblegummy) notes. flavor is very yeasty, with some spiciness. Not nearly as much fruitiness, but instead, a lot more alcohol. Hudspart (283), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA Jun 21, 2008 Bottle: Pours light amber with no head. Aroma of oranges, honey and floral hops. Flavor of fruits and hops along with a hint of the alcohol. Very drinkable and good. benshipper (1), , Michigan, USA does not count Jun 20, 2008 12oz. bottle. Pours a goldeny haze. The aroma is the best part of this beer: the whole nose is filled with the smell of wild flowers, orange zest, honey. Tastes of orange, coriander, honey, sweet malt. Lingers very long on the palate, beginning with flowers and ending with only a malty taste of alcohol.
Overall pretty good tripel, despite the heavy lingering alcohol taste.
