A super-secret take on Dark Horse’s infamous Crooked Tree IPA.

Silphium (3160) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Draft at Reno’s East, East Lansing. Cloudy orange body, a tad darker than the Amarillo version; thin dense off-white head. Citrusy nose with flower petals. Sharper body than the Amarillo, with tangerine/tangelo, grapefruit rind and pulp, and hints of lemon. Sharper finish too, with some biting acidity. Solid.

On tap at GTMW 2012. Hazy apricot with a very large tan head. Aroma is dank and fruity with caramel and some herbal and grassy notes. Taste in line with aroma with moderate bitterness.

deyholla (6511) - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA - AUG 11, 2012
Sampled from the tap at the 15th annual MBGSF. Pours a clear orange gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has notes of grapefruit and citrus with a hint of dankness underlying bread notes. Flavor has some bitter grapefruit with a bit of citrus and a backbone of deep sweet grains.

I had this one sitting on the sidewalk at Hawthornes during a Philly Beer Week event featuring the Dark Horse beers and the brewer. This is a take on the Crooked Tree IPA. I think it may have been brewed with some Nelson Sauvin hops because the aroma was quite fruity. Excellent beer especially for the summer.
