4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
A nice easy-drinkin’ Scotch Ale with a nice punch. The aroma is roasty and not overly-sweet by any means. Based on smell, I thought the beer wouldn’t have any sweetness. The taste, however, brings a mellow caramel roast with hints of doughy malt. I really like this beer. It compares a lot to Oskar Blues Old Chubb in smoothness, but is less sweet than Chubb, which is a good thing. The ABV of this beer makes it a great find. AAA+++

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark brown with a small tan head. Plum, cedar and molasses aroma. Ripe fruit, smokey malt and licorice flavors lead to a warm alcohol finish. Slick texture with average carbonation. A little boozy, but still pretty smooth for something just under 10%.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle. Light brown with one finger head. Very malty with a hint of peat. Booze well hidden. This style doesn’t do much for me, but I think this is decent for the style.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled at an ESBLS sampling. It poured a reddish/brown color with an off-white head. The aroma was malty with caramel and some apple. It had a medium body with smooth texture and average carbonation. The taste was sweet with some alcohol warmth in the finish. Very well done.

3.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ruby brown in color with a small head. This beer hides the high alcohol content easily as it goes down smoothly. There isn’t much aroma that I can describe. The taste is difficult for as well. It is enjoyable however.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: NOV 12, 2013 Tap: muddled, swampy marsh brown with a beige-ish head that reduced quickly to a film. Aroma is mild nuts, woodsiness, light caramel apple, a touch if grape, & some faint cocoa powder. Surprisingly mild aroma for an almost 10%-er. Taste is light graininess, rye bread, toast, light nuts, a hint of plums & dark fruit esters, & some warm caramel. Alcohol is pretty warm, edges on acetone-like at times. Dry, rye-like finish with heavily toasted bread, light cocoa powder, nuts, & faint woodiness. Not bad... Admittedly, I’m just not a huge fan of the style to begin with.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy brownish orange. Not much of an aroma. Some caramel and some fruitiness in the aroma. Tastes pretty band but hides the 10% really well.
