For those of you who donít know who "Scotty Karate" is... He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky tonk influenced, punk country songs. His voice is amazing as well as his high energy shows. (Check him out @ www.scottykaratetime.com) So, we decided to make a beer and name it in his honor. This beer is a big, full bodied Scottish ale. It is 9.75% alc. but it is very smooth and balanced. Since Scotty is also very passionate about beer I asked him to write a description for you, so from the man himself... Aroma: Smells like A fresh caramel apple with a hint of cinnamon inside of cranberry shortbread. Or maybe fresh home made hard candy (from home economics class-7th grade). Flavor: Tastes like a smokey chocolate chip cookie, wild roadside cherry-asparagus, woody, crispy leaf on a fall day.

Rated 4/3/13. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a hazy dark brown color. The head is a one finger offwhite shade with a soft-looking creaminess to it. Retention is decent given the strength, and thereís a bit of lacing left behind, too. S: Big caramel here unsurprisingly. Thereís also an impressive dark fruit note here that I find enticing. Other notes of brown sugar, molasses, and toffee abound. T: Strong tones of caramel, toffee, and brown sugar open the flavor profile up, with light smokiness and plum-like sweetness building up on the finish. The big problem isnít whatís here...itís what isnít here. While most certainly well made, it lacks in interesting qualities that could have made it great; nor is it particularly complex. The alcohol is hidden superbly, though. M: Relatively thick, rich, and sweet on the palate, appropriately for the style. Carbonation is only prevalent when allowed to focus on the tongue. O: Itís pretty good, yeah, but itís missing something - such as the vague stout-like qualities of Old Chub or the drinkable complexity of Dirty Bastard. As such, itís hard to recommend over those two.

Bottle. Dark copper, small white head. Aroma is mainly malty, caramely, dried fruits, hint of alcohol, raisins and bit of hops. In taste sweet, caramely with floral hops. Oily, smooth, softly carbonated. Nice stuff.

Bottle split @ Craft Clerko. Thanks to the Cad for busting this out. Nose of toffee cremes. Some toasted grain breadiness. Accents of smoked malt. Sort of overly sweet. Taste is even more unbalanced. Very sweet toffee and honey sort of overpowers everything else. Mild smoky grain. Oily and rich. Not really my thing.

Pours dark copper with small head, disappearing fast. Aroma: a malt bomb in the beginning, followed by some heavy white fruit aroma (grape juice/sirup), some hopps, raisins, a little earthy aroma. Taste: heavy malty sweetness, caramel, nice hoppy touch in the palate (together with some earthy taste). Nice interpretation of wee heavy.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a thin head. Aromas are weetabix and toffee with earthy oatmeal. Raisins with brown sugar and mellow lemon. Flavours are sweet toffee with earthy coffee and bonfire. Good.

dark brown, clear, small rather short-lasting beige foam; toasty aroma with caramel, nuts, some dried fruits and little bit of alcohol; medium+ bitterness, medium sweetness; full body, thick sticky feel, rather soft carbonation, long bittersweet finish with alcohol warmness; Overall: decent sipper, well-hidden alcohol, no flaws

Appearance: on opening, produces a dark clear reddish brown pour, topped by an overly aggressive (especially for the abv) foamy pillow of yellow head; somethingís wrong. Aroma: apple cider vinegar, toasted oak, sour cherry, molasses, and caramel. Taste: sour balsamic vinegar, acetone, wet newspaper, oatmeal raisin cookie. Finish: caramel, toffee, molasses, hint of rum, lasting sharp sourness. Notes: Based on the near explosion when opening an erstwhile 9.75% beer, this must have been infected. Flavors seemed to bear that out. Disappointed, was looking forward to this. Will try again and re-rate a (hopefully) fresher bottle. This is also why I wish more brewers would make a born on date (or best by date) standard practice. 12oz bottle from Total Wine & More in Fairfax, Virginia (Pickett Center).

Piana drobno i średnio oczkowa, nieduża i szybko opadająca do obrączki, lekko opalizująca ciemno bursztynowa barwa. Zapach świetny - słodkie nuty akacji, syropu klonowego, miodu spadziowego, gruszki, rodzynek i daktyli a nad całością unosi się delikatna wędzonka leśnego ogniska i likierowy przyjemny alkohol. W smaku każda ta subtelność doskonale wyczuwalna, jest mniej słodko niż wskazywałby aromat, dochodzą lekkie dębowe posmaki, nieco whisky, karmelu... Goryczka niska, ziołowa, przyjemna. W afterteasie odrobina tytoniu, szkockiej i suszonych owocůw. Nisko nagazowane, pełne i lepkie choć nie gęste w odczuciu, perfekcyjnie ukryty alkohol. Piwo jest mocne, wyklejające, půłsłodkie i wybitnie deserowe. Przypomina dobre angielskie Barley Wine z dodatkiem torfowego słodu.
