For those of you who don’t know who "Scotty Karate" is... He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky tonk influenced, punk country songs. His voice is amazing as well as his high energy shows. (Check him out @ www.scottykaratetime.com) So, we decided to make a beer and name it in his honor. This beer is a big, full bodied Scottish ale. It is 9.75% alc. but it is very smooth and balanced. Since Scotty is also very passionate about beer I asked him to write a description for you, so from the man himself... Aroma: Smells like A fresh caramel apple with a hint of cinnamon inside of cranberry shortbread. Or maybe fresh home made hard candy (from home economics class-7th grade). Flavor: Tastes like a smokey chocolate chip cookie, wild roadside cherry-asparagus, woody, crispy leaf on a fall day.

Pros: Aroma has some malt depth, showcasing notes of peat, maple, caramel and coffee. Nice looking beer, with ample foam. Mouth feel has a nice density. Well extracted malt notes, with lots of vibrancy.

Cons: Way too sweet, nearly ruining the overall feeling of the beer. Overbearing sweetness.

Bottle 0.355l. Pours hazy dark brown color with thin totally diminishing tan-like head and moderate yeast residue. Aroma of dark fruits, berries, caramel, rubber and leather. Taste starts with sweet caramel and toasted malt, follows fruity, smokey and alcoholic, muthfeel is warming, while finish is light bitter. Full body, syrupy texture and soft carbonation in palate. More fruits and hops makes this Scotch Ale much more palatable than Scottish or English brews..

Medium, but dense cream to beige head, slightly irregular over deep brown beer. Very cheesy nose, blue cheese, sweet cark with cherries or plums, syrup; some aromatic hops. Sweet cake with caramel/syrup; aromatic bitterish & fruity hops; banana, plum, dark grapes; tad vinous. Quite well-bodied, viscous-oily, faint alcoholheat; long-lasting flavours. Too strong for a real Scotch ale, I’d say a Barley Wine, restrained American Style. Which doesn’t spoil anything.

355ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a beautiful ruby brown, but no head. Aromas of dark sugars, burnt sugar, toffee, smoke. Taste is sweety, light smoke, more treacle, light spice. Sticky finish.

Bottle. Dark copper, small white head. Aroma is mainly malty, caramely, dried fruits, hint of alcohol, raisins and bit of hops. In taste sweet, caramely with floral hops. Oily, smooth, softly carbonated. Nice stuff.

Bottle split @ Craft Clerko. Thanks to the Cad for busting this out. Nose of toffee cremes. Some toasted grain breadiness. Accents of smoked malt. Sort of overly sweet. Taste is even more unbalanced. Very sweet toffee and honey sort of overpowers everything else. Mild smoky grain. Oily and rich. Not really my thing.

Pours dark copper with small head, disappearing fast. Aroma: a malt bomb in the beginning, followed by some heavy white fruit aroma (grape juice/sirup), some hopps, raisins, a little earthy aroma. Taste: heavy malty sweetness, caramel, nice hoppy touch in the palate (together with some earthy taste). Nice interpretation of wee heavy.
