For those of you who dont know who "Scotty Karate" is... He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky tonk influenced, punk country songs. His voice is amazing as well as his high energy shows. (Check him out @ www.scottykaratetime.com) So, we decided to make a beer and name it in his honor. This beer is a big, full bodied Scottish ale. It is 9.75% alc. but it is very smooth and balanced. Since Scotty is also very passionate about beer I asked him to write a description for you, so from the man himself... Aroma: Smells like A fresh caramel apple with a hint of cinnamon inside of cranberry shortbread. Or maybe fresh home made hard candy (from home economics class-7th grade). Flavor: Tastes like a smokey chocolate chip cookie, wild roadside cherry-asparagus, woody, crispy leaf on a fall day.

Pros: Aroma has some malt depth, showcasing notes of peat, maple, caramel and coffee. Nice looking beer, with ample foam. Mouth feel has a nice density. Well extracted malt notes, with lots of vibrancy.

Cons: Way too sweet, nearly ruining the overall feeling of the beer. Overbearing sweetness.

355 ml. bottle @ home. Purchased @ Struise Beershop in Bruges. BBF dates is smudges. Pours deep pomegranate brown copper with little tanned head. Nose is strong cough syrup, herbal, syrupy with varnish coated overripe dark fruits. Overly reminiscent of cough syrup for me. Taste is herbal cough syrup with light molasses, dash licorice, faint oxidation, dash varnish, varnish coated overripe dark fruits, alcohol soaked dark fruits, light burned mocha, leaves quite a bit of Belgian qualities. Low carbonation, syrupy, slick thin herbal. Overly reminiscent of cough syrup with varnish & Belgian accents for me, feels a bit aged. This flavor profile seems to belong more to the 80s & 90s rather than now. Passable for what it is but not really for me. It is partially enjoyable & not all bad but it isnt something that I would choose given prior knowledge & agreeable other options.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel), with notes of alcohol, brown sugar. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic. Simple aroma of sugars, and expectedly very sweet in the mouth, although there is enough finishing bitterness to keep it from being repulsively sweet. Its worst aspect is by far the mouthfeel, where it is curiously thin-bodied and watery for being nearly 10% (and quite burning, as you might expect). A very boring drain pour.

Clear dark brown colour with very small head. Aroma has wooden notes, chocolate, dried fruits, some berries too and malty as well. Taste has chocolate sweetness, syrup, wooden notes and malty flavours. Soft medium body and medium carbonation. Excellent aroma but taste was sadly not so great.

Wow! Dark pour with good head and solid lacing. Full bodied flavor that has a kick, but without the burn you get with many high ABV beers. I found the malty flavor refreshing and crisp.

This is a potent Scotch Ale. Malty flavors throughout which mask the high alcohol pretty well. Caramel, some spice, just a bit of darker, roasted malts. Lots of alcohol.

Piwo mocno alkoholowe slodkie. Kolor rubinowo czerwony srednia piana pecherzykowa lecz szybko opada. Aromat winny, drzewny i przypominal mi wilgotna chlodna piwnice. Smak tresciwy na przemian slodkie likierowe wino i daktyle i figi w tle. Do tego etanol. Ogolnie czuc tu dobra rasowa szkole rzemieslnicza ale przy slodkawe moze byc to piwo dla niektorych.

Pours a dark, cloudy copper with a beige head. Unassuming circus peanut and toffee nose. Mildly sharp and lightly crisp mouthfeel. Toffee and circus peanut flavors.

Bottle, pours fairly dark, slightly brownish tinge. Big tan head. Aroma is lots of caramel & scotch in there. Big boozy scotch ale. I can already tell this is well done. Flavor is robust, some cherries, dark fruit (prunes? fig?), cinnamon, booze, scotch, slightly quad-like notes. Wow, this is well done. I let this one warm up to the right temp. as well, so its really pleasant right meow.

Bottle. Brown, medium beige head. Quite heavily carbonated. Aroma cinnamon, marzipan, sweet dough, milk chocolate. Taste in line with aroma, complex, leaving mainly sweet nutty palate. Very nice ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
