COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For those of you who don’t know who "Scotty Karate" is... He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky tonk influenced, punk country songs. His voice is amazing as well as his high energy shows. (Check him out @ www.scottykaratetime.com) So, we decided to make a beer and name it in his honor. This beer is a big, full bodied Scottish ale. It is 9.75% alc. but it is very smooth and balanced. Since Scotty is also very passionate about beer I asked him to write a description for you, so from the man himself... Aroma: Smells like A fresh caramel apple with a hint of cinnamon inside of cranberry shortbread. Or maybe fresh home made hard candy (from home economics class-7th grade). Flavor: Tastes like a smokey chocolate chip cookie, wild roadside cherry-asparagus, woody, crispy leaf on a fall day.

Pours a deep copper w/ tan head. Taste is heavy on malt, caramel and somewhat bready. Slightly bitter finish. Meh...certainly not my fave from Dark Horse.

Bottle. Paired with wrath of khan. Red-brown pour with small ring of bubbles. Caramel, cardboard, toffee, and dark fruit on nose. Sweet; simple. Medium body, prickly carbonation. Overall: okay.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Reddish pour with a quick lasting head. The aroma has a definite cracker or more precisely Graham Cracker note with dark malts, a ripe fruit note, vanilla, and a low hop profile. Missing the Peat character that I like in Scotch ales. Light to medium body. The taste is a step up from the aroma with a focus on the caramel and toffee and vanilla malt sweetness, Mild to moderate bitterness to finish. The vanilla put me off a touch.

MNAle (117) - Minnesota, USA - JUL 29, 2016
Dark, almost opaque color. 1/2 inch tan head recedes quickly leaving little/no lacing. Dark fruit aroma, smokey, some chocolate or caramel perhaps. Thick mouth feel. Smooth and creamy. Dark fruit and sweet malts in the initial taste, with some very mild bitterness in the middle and aftertaste with an earthy finish. Overall, fruity, Smokey, mild and malty. Just the barest hint of booze.

12 oz bottle served in a snifter. Pours with a mahogany colored body and a very good tan head. Gunky sediment in the bottle with a bit in the glass too. Nice caramel malt aroma and flavor. Well hidden alcohol: I was surprised to see 9.75% ABV listed. Full body with a light touch of alcohol.

Bottle (from beergium). Pours dark ruby with beige head. The small head stays for some moments. Aroma is sweet, caramel, malt. Flavor is sweet and somewhat bitter, caramel, malt. Finish is lingering caramel sweetness with some burtn sugar-citric bitterness. Alcohol is mostly covered, feels potent, but not boozy. Overall: good, but maybe bit too simple.

Strong caramel, oak, milk chocolate aroma. Cloudy brown, medium tan head. Chocolate and caramel, dried leaves, kibble, tree bark. Smoky finish. Light body, easy carbonation. Rich and intense but not heavy.

Orange-brown pour, small off-white head. Aroma of minty dirty socks. Seriously. Flavor of nuts, raisins and mint. Bizarre.

Dark brown color with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, nuts, cocoa, and light smoke. Taste of the same, sweeter caramel malt, cocoa, roast, some alcohol in the finish.

Pours a very dark brown that turns a hazy garnet under intense light. Below normal head volume, poor lacing and retention. Very good nose of bready notes over caramel. Intensity is a bit light and fails to deliver the complexity needed for an outstanding aroma for this style. At room temperature, very light notes of dark fruit are present. Light medium body that is smooth. Superb carbonation level that is matched very well for the body providing a palate tickling effervescent middle and a nice prickly burst in the finish. The flavor profile is very good, but like the nose, it lacks complexity. Bready flavor with a bit of char permeates. The middle brings a light subtle bitterness that is very well balanced with a slightly burned sweet caramel note. Alcohol is completely covered, no small task for 9.75% ABV. The finish is a slow, slightly sweet, fade of bready (pumpernickel comes to mind) malts and a charred note.
