On tap at beertemple, amsterdam. Body is hazy brown, head is medium, creamy, beige, average lasting, excellent lacing. Nose is slightly roasty liqueurish, flavor is chocolate, dried fruits, roasted malt, vanilla, rotten wood, light spices. Medium sweet, medium to bitter. Finish is medium lasting chocolate roasty medium bittersweet, alcohol is well hidden. Full body, oily sticky texture, soft carbonation. Great dessert beer, quite easy, tasty.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nose reminds me of Apple cider. Malty, sweet, a bit of butterscotch. Some slightly toasty caramel. Not much hop aroma. Touches of bread, earth and leaves.
Color is a dark reddish brown. Very slight off-white head.
Taste is fairly sweet; very mild bitterness.
Medium body; texture is somewhat oily and slick; carbonation is just very slightly on the lively side. The finish is medium length, a bit sweet, bready with some butterscotch.
Overall a reasonable scotch ale. I like the variety of aromas and the cider like notes. But really lacking a hop presence; perhaps just not my favorite style.

From a 4-pack of bottles, rich dark brown look with almost no collar. This is one of the best scotch ales I’ve tried. It has a smooth flavor with malt, but not sweet. It is strong (9.75%) but it’s only noticeable in the buzz not the taste. I like the name and the story, but I think the reason for the name is that after several of these it could lead one to believe they know karate, until they either pulled a groin muscle or get their ass kicked. Cheers, and be careful!

Peated Scotch, Rum Raisins, Plums, Chocolate, and roasted barley. Wish this were a bit more smokey but I won’t nitpick here.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
0.355 bottle. Brown color with a crimson tinge and a small off-white head. Malty aroma, wood, whisky, butterscotch, and quite a lot of caramel. Sweet, malty taste, delicate alcohol, again caramel, and finally butterscotch. Medium body, slick texture, and soft carbonation. Finish is very caramelly, whisky, once again butterscotch. Overall not a bad beer but I expected more, anything that implies barrel aging is held up to a higher standard by me.
