4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jstraw (1644) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 30, 2013Dark mahogany, no head / Lightly sour nose of chocolate and dark fruit / Medium to full body, low carbonation, some but not dramatic tartness and sweet, good balance with a hint of bitterness on the finish / Complex flavors of chocolate, oak, plum, fig, soy sauce, sherry, and tobacco / A certain clumsiness to it, but I enjoyed it until the last drop.dough. If they ever perfect the body, and unfortunately I have never tried regular Off The Scale, this would be stellar.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 j12601 (5609) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - MAY 18, 2013
Bottle at James’s 4k/5k/10k tasting. Pours a deep ruby garnet with no head. Big oxidization and sweet old malt. Medium bodied, smooth and malty, lots of old oxidization, very, very, very light hints of tartness. Not sure if I get anything sour or acidic, but definitely old and oxidized. Chewy malt. Very tasty, but not so much sour.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Silphium (2969) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAY 3, 2013
Bottle. Murky orange-brown body, no head. Deep, delectable nose of brandy, brown sugar, caramel, and green apple. Sweet body with brown sugar and caramel, tart and somewhat oxidized. Rich. I can’t imagine this beer would receive poor ratings if every bottle was like this one.
0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 HonusWagner (890) - Florida, USA - APR 15, 2013
Newest winner of the prize "worst beer I have ever tasted". Aroma is rotten vegetables, bourbon, and more acetone than the local MAC shop. Eye-watering, stomach-churning. Taste is even worse, sour vegetables, sickeningly sweet toffee, boozy bourbon. All of this carried on a body like Dimetapp, pure syrup, no carbonation. Disgraceful beer, the fact that this was bottled and sold is a fucking horrible sign for the QC at Dark Horse. This is the kind of money grabbing bullshit that should be reserved for the AB-Inbevs of the world.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 polomagnifico (1102) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - APR 4, 2013
Bottle shared by Chris from Dark Horse, thanks man!! Aroma is just fantastic! Notes of dark dried fruits, tobacco, black licorice, soy and some incredible port tones. This bottle has aged very well. Very dark ruby brown hue with an off-white head. Flavor is heavy sweet and medium to heavy bitter. Palate is big and very full bodied and oily with a soft carbonation. Overall an epic brew that I couldn’t get enough of. Then I go online and see these weak ass ratings, wtf? The beer must have aged well or been a better batch because what I tasted and rated was an epic Barely Wine with a slight sour character. I’ll stand by this rating, to hell with the haters.
1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 djd07 (2316) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 1, 2013
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with no head. The aroma is soy sauce. Thin mouthfeel with soy sauce and steak marinade. Not much sour. Instead of a drain pour I will marinade a steak.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jcartamdg (1135) - Spring Hill, Florida, USA - FEB 28, 2013
Pours hazy brown with no head. Aroma of malt, booze, chocolate and acetone. Taste is boozy, malt and tart. Not great.

(375ml bottle, batch #1826) Pours a burgundy body with a spare off-white head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, toffee, cherry, leather, and vinous. Flavor of caramel, vinous, earth, and balsamic with a dry finish. Unbalanced.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 PhillyCraft (1963) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 2, 2013
Bottle split with Alen before the Teresas Super bowl Sat event. Pours a red brown color. Nice notes of roast, toffee, brandy, sherry, and smoked wood. Not boozey at all for the alc percentage. Finishes sour.
1.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20 b3shine (2229) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 2, 2013
375 ml maroon-waxed bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.; thanks mikem409). Looks sub-par; a fairly opaque cola with very thin beige lacing (when swirled; not naturally) and no visible carbonation. Smells sweet like a barleywine with sour and acetone notes. Tastes like it smells, but worse, and in two separate steps. Flat barleywine first, then off-putting acetone and nasty sourness. Worsens as it warms too. Awful on the palate. Drain pour. Yet another disappointing sour from Dark Horse. They should really stop making them or learn how to do them right.
