3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Light and clean burnt brown pour with a noticeable body and copper edges. One to two fingers of tight mocha tan head. Nose has an unexpected richness, very light roast with some toasted bread, very subtle drip coffee character, some cacao. Nice dark grain presence in the flavor, rich but subtle flavors, bitter chocolate. Not incredibly complex on the flavor but delivers what it does very well. Medium to full bodied with some acidity and bitter roast.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Samís Quik Shop in Durham. Pours nearly black with a disappointing tan head. Nose of roast chocolate, coffee and roasty malt notes. Some hints at licorice. Taste is more roasty, sweet. Finishes thin and wet where a bit of bitter and dry might be nice.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Nice aroma from a bottle, smooth rich olfactory impressions. First taste is strong porter fer sure, Iím thinking Iím in the range of baltic. However, it does have a smoothness not found in many baltic porters. Some hints of choco but not much. Finish is a little medicinal and slightly mouth coating. Thar, yah haff it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle... Poured dark black with a thin head that dissipated quickly. Nose had caramel malts, toasted sweetness and a hint of vanilla. Flavor was much of the same. Low roast on this one. Full mouthfeel and little drying towards the finish. Worty, quite sweet. Charred grains and sweetness with coffee, chocolate, and vanilla.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a moderate light tan head. Nose has some coffee and roasting in there, but the smell isnít all that strong. Taste is actually a bit bitter, with a lot of roasting in there. Just ever-so-slightly like a burnt coffee. Very interesting...

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/3/2013. Pours fairly pitch black color with a nice 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, coffee, toast, light char, molasses, light raisin, floral, and hop earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity of dark malt notes. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, coffee, toast, toffee, molasses, light char, light raisin, floral, and hop earthiness. Light earthy coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, light coffee, toast, toffee, light raisin, floral, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of flavor with good complexity; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice porter. Very nice flavor balance and robustness; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
