Aroma of a feed store with hints of dark fruit. Pours a solid black with a tan ring and no lacing. The taste is sightly sweet initially culminating in a rewarding bitter finish. Roasted malt, grain, and fruit, Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, an ok porter. However, I would have liked a fuller body.

Bottle poured a dark cola color with a ring of tan head. Aroma has chocolate, molasses, dark malt, and coffee. Mouth feel is medium light and the carbonation low. Flavor has plenty of malt, mild roast, molasses, dark chocolate, and coffee. Odd porter for sure.

Purchased at Evolution Wine & Spirits in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Appearance is pitch black, moderate consistency, thin off white head that rims around the glass. Aroma of molasses, rich dark chocolate, light sweetness, smells a bit soft and dessert like. Taste goes down malty, sweet, with a light bitterness, rich in chocolate, molasses, and dark fruit. It’s a nice easy drinker, very light burn, leaves a syrupy finish. Overall, good stuff.

Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, and a touch of licorice and maybe coconut...strange. Dark, still brown. Bitter chocolate and brown sugar taste. Papery finish follows a smooth medium bodied pull. Has some unique aspects to it, none that are outstanding however.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a dark cola color. About one fingers of creamy mocha-colored head is formed with a creamy texture and mediocre retention. Good lacing is left on the glass, at least. S: There’s a definite vibe of stewed dark fruits. I also note chocolate (a good deal), brown sugar, and licorice. Definitely serviceable as far as the style goes; too bad my dislike towards licorice pulls the score down somewhat. T: Yeah. It’s definitely heavy on both dark fruits and licorice, especially on the opening. A definite roasted barley note creeps in on the back end, to pair with the crisp, dry finish. This doesn’t excite me too much, plus its single-dimensional flavors don’t help. M: This is very light for a 7% porter. Combined with the crisp, clean finish, the drinkability is excellent. The crispness is replaced with a bit of sweetness after a few sips, but this could still be chugged regardless. A bit undercarbonated, too. O: Any beer that I can pick up a lot of licorice flavors in is likely to get a big fat ’meh’ from me - the only reason this doesn’t is because of how damn drinkable it is. Even still, I wouldn’t seek this one out in the future.
