Poured in my tulip, this beer pods nice but little head. Light chocolate and malt on the nose. Palate is light but good. The taste is not overly bitter. Lots of malt and chocolate and dark candy seen to come out on this. Hints of dark licorice and raisin also are noted. I'm sort of surprised this has a low score, I'm going back to buy the rest of the inventory. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap. Minimal head with next to no lacing. Malty caramel aroma with caramel and coffee flavors. Nice licorice lingering finish. Carbonation is moderate for a good mouth feel and very, very good porter.

[Bottle] Wow, this one sure changed as it warmed. Started out really bland and forgettable, but after sitting for awhile it became quite enjoyable. Anise up front which then melds into roasted malt and some chocolate for a lasting finish. Nothing crazy or incredibly unique; just a very solid porter. Aroma is pretty restrained, even after warming--dusty, slight alcohol, anise, and mild smoke. Fairly thin, long finish. Overall, a really nice porter that Iím glad I gave a chance to warm up.

Nice dark color and appealing aroma. Flavor is light and not that heavy. I would say it is okay.

phaleslu (5863) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 10, 2014
Draft shared by Ms. phaleslu at Holy Grale. Pours a deep brown color with a small beige head that leaves spots in the glass. Aroma of toasted malts, light roast, nuts, chocolate, and earth. Flavor of dark chocolate, molasses, anise, earth, nuts, tobacco, and faint dark fruits. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, earthy, rich, semi-spicy mouthfeel. Good porter with more complexity than the nose lets on.
