3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured flat. Might be a bad bottle, we’ll see. I’m going to have to re-rate after my cold is gone anyway.
Almost as good as its big brother Black Bier. Just enough sweetness from the lactose to keep it from being too rich and dark. Nice.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle. Aroma of chocolate, berries, cream, and coffee. Black as hell with very small dark brown head that fully diminished and left no lace. Flavor is sweet then bitter with chocolate, roasted coffee, pipe tobacco and molasses. Palate is full bodied and oily flat. This is a big beer with lot’s of good flavors. Really good but the lactose is going to kill me.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black with thin dirty brown head. Strong coffee and chocolate aroma. Flavor is bitter coffee, milk chocolate, roasty malt, smoke, hazelnut. Finishes slightly bitter, creamy. Nice carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is dark milk chocolate, and this strange bock-like blending of dark cocoa and this ineffable goodness that I can only describe as port- but less winey.
Flavor is dark chocolate, port, bitter cocoa.
This is very straightforward, but damn good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Stine - thanks! Nice looking blackish pour with a smaller head. Aroma has a bold creamy, roastiness that mixes well with the dark chocolate and light coffee essence coming off this one. Flavor is chocolatey-creamy with some light smokiness, a hint of espresso, and light hop bitterness. Nice mouthfeel - Good stout with a taste doesn’t quite live up to the wonderful aroma (or its close relative Black Bier), but still a nice stout from Dark Horse.

Low carbonation. Lots of cocoa in the aroma. Tastes a bit like melted milk chocolate. Distinct lactic finish. Very nice.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Wow! Extremely dark pour is essentially pitch black. Small cocoa head. Aroma is overpowering chocolate with a hint of dark roast. Creamy medium full body with restrained carbonation. Taste is mostly chocolate but there is a soothing lactic note and some bitter dark roast. Very nicely done. Thanks to acknud for the bottle.

Thanks to Eben for this one. Black bodied with a small brown head. Somewhat powdery aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavor is quite chocolaty as well with a gentle roastiness blended in with the flowing smooth texture.
