3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle
I got this in a recent trade with artusory. It was very well made. If only there was not a neverending supply of new beers to try, I would pick this one up if it ever made it to Madison. As it is, I can highly recommend it if you find it while in Michigan.
Aroma / Appearance - It pours a dark plum color that behaves like an oily liquid. The lacing clings to the side of the glass before sliding down to rejoin the rest. The nose is an intruiging combination of burnt toast, smores, plums, blueberries and cedar chips. In the background is a hint of chocolate (the cheap waxy candy bar type).
Flavor / Palate - Sweet chocolate chips, roasted malts, smoke and raisins present themselves from the start. After that comes a chalky chocolate mouthfeel that is a little thin but still pleasing. The aftertaste is malty and slightly bitter. This is very easy to drink and was gone before I knew it. While not extremely complex, it still is good enough to warrant a recommendation if you can find it.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Bello Vino, Ann Arbor. Deep ruby-black with a small milk-chocolate brown head. Aroma is fantastic - lots of roast and cocoa, some fresh coffee, a touch of sour cherry, and an interesting smoky & salty end note. Body is a bit thin, but nice, giving it an almost cask-like character. Flavour isnít quite as impressive as the aroma, but is still pretty nice - good roastiness with a bit of chocolate, and a bitter finish that lengthens as it warms up. Very nice stout.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle thanks to Styles! Poured a deep, viscous black with a beautiful cap of rich mahogany head.. unfortunately it didnít last too long. Deeply-roasted, almost burnt dark chocolate, lactose sweetness, a bit of cherry, and coffee in the aroma.. very nice. Excellent in the flavor department, too... dry roasted dark chocolate and coffee at the forefront, coffee bitterness, lactose sweetness and dried cherries on the middle, and a long, sweet roasted coffee finish. Medium-bodied and on the thin side (compared to how the pour looked)... decent balance.. somewhat grainy at times... dry roasty finish. Excellent brew! Thanks Chris!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black body with a chocolate head that fades. Mild roast, dark bitter chocolate that hints at black coffee. Dry flavour up front, sweet malt middle, lingering dry coffee like patent malt (?) bitterness. Flavour gets a a bit sweeter as the glass goes on. Average palate is a bit thin for a stout with cream in the name, needs a bit more bodyin my opinion. Decent stout that did little for me.

[013-20060828] 341mL. Gamey syrup aroma. Black body with small, disappearing, light brown head. Some chocolate, roasted coffee flavouring, but fairly smooth. Full mouth feel. Definitely stouty, not creamy.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours black with a spare diminishing brown head. Aroma of deep roasted malt, cofee, dark chocolate and hops -- quite nice. Flavour follows the aroma -- sweet and bitter. Medium bodied. Pretty good, Iíve yet to have a bad Dark Horse beer.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, shared with Blankboy and Hogtown Harry, Harryís bottle. Pitch black, very dark small head. Really good aroma: wonderful roast. Wow - bad taste. Boo! Tinny, thin roast, too sweet. So thin! Better on second sip - roast and sweetness balances out a bit more. Still though, disappointing thin taste overall.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, my bottle. Thick black pour, minimal dark brown head (really want to give it a 4). Extremely deep dark roast aroma, dry, strong acidic coffee, bitter nutshellm hint of dark cherry, some dry hops in there too. Taste is roasty, sweet deep molasses malt, nut bitterness, coffee - decent finish. Thickish body, not much carbonation, nicely acidic. Pretty good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft sample at MBGF. Black color with a medium frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Heavy roasted malt aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy texture. Medium dark chocolate roasted flavor with a roasted finish of long duration. Better than my expectations.
