3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle poured into nonic. This beer is opaque black with a quarter inch of light brown head that settles to a thin ring. Minimal lacing. The aroma is carried by roasted malts and coffee, plus creamy lactose sugar and a hint of milk chocolate. It has a subdued vanilla cream sweetness that rolls in after a strong wave of coffee, molasses, and roasted malt bitterness. Medium-light body and a thin mouthfeel that are disappointing; soft carbonation and a long roasty finish that are quite nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Also known as ’One’ in the trio of Dark Horse stouts. This one and the oatmeal variety look remarkably similar - deep brown with a quick scattering tan head. This one gets the nod for nose and flavour, with an interesting licorice accompaniment to the harder roasts and bitters. But its best to mix the two. I’m serious! I had the two pints poured simultaneously and when each got down to a third of a glass or so I whimsically mixed them. The result deepened the full round sweet flavours and allowed them to better battle the bitters. The mixture reminded me of some of the better Imperials for complexity.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Biggish grayish black head. Opaque black body. Roasty mealy toffee
aroma with waxy notes. Roasty earthy toffee taste with raisiny fruity
notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry roasty toffee and
raisins aftertaste with burnt notes. Long, lingering mineraly burnt
chocolate finish. Interesting, different, and impressively well made.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at home. Has a pitch black colour with a medium, creamy, light brown head. Roasted tones in the aroma along with dark chocolate, wood, leather nougat (Ferrero Rocher if you know), ash, smoke and soy sauce. The flavour is more roasted with more ash, campfire and coffee beans. Has a slick mouth feel, and a medium bitterness. A fantastic mix of roasted malt and sweet lactose. A tasteful and aromatic dessert beer.

In short: nice creamy stout.
Pours black with rich creamy tan head. Moderate head retention, some lacing. Roasty, coffee, chocolate, creamy aromas. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Taste follows the nose, moderate bitterness, smooth, silky, alcohol well integrated but noticed.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Got this from Shane. Poured out a pretty jet black with a dark brown head. It was a textbook stout pour. Big roasty nose that was pretty inviting. Flavor was pretty big for a 7.5 abv stout. Big roasted malts, creamy dark chocolate, light nutty bitterness that balances pretty well. It reminded me of a bigger beer without the booziness. I thought this was done quite well.
