I was skeptical with the whole Dark Horse stout series thing but as an avid stout fan, I dove in head first glad I did! This is the second in the "stout series" and maybe the best. Excellent mouthfeel, strong flavor and aroma. Loved it all around.

Thick, dark head recedes quickly. Huge roasted malt aromas, slight bittersweet aftertaste almost coffee-like. Smooth, creamy, oily texture. Although a bit heavy for a Florida night (obviously).

Strong cream and alcohol aroma with even stronger taste. Black appearance with a simple mouthfeel but big aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark black pour with thin tan head, aroma brings sweet lactose, caramel, slight chocolate, milk chocolate, espresso and mocha notes, hints of dark fruits in there as well. Taste is sweet lactose, a sharp acidic note with some dark fruits, toffee, hints of coffee and roast, finishing fairly sweet. Eh.

Tap @ Mikkeller Bar. Black with a big dark brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, hard roasted malt and a little vanilla. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted rather bitter finish. Smooth and oily. 250412

Originally reviewed: 2/10/11. 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours an uber-thick evil-looking black. This slowly glugs out of the bottle. No head at all, just a ring around the edge. Not the prettiest of beers, but man to I love that thick pour. The nose is full of coffee and chocolate, some dry notes like burlap and wood. Not as sweet as I would think. Excellent mouth on this one. Big chewy feel with a smooth coating effect. Excellent for this style. I wish all stouts would take note and do the same. This isn’t the sweetest of Sweet Stouts, but it’s still a good one. Dark chocolate, roasted coffee, slight acidity, and the faintest of wood notes on the back end. Good, easy-drinking stout here. The alcohol gets to me near the end though, so it’s not necessarily an everyday beer. I love me some thick stouts, so I’m glad I have some more bottles of this

At fountainhead. Smooth creamy and rich but not overly so. Flourless chocolate cake-like. Serving: Tap

Pours a pitch black with a medium to thinner brown head. Aroma consists of chocolate, toffee, and a bit of raisin. It is quite potent and very sweet. Taste is on the sweeter side as well. The tastes of raisin does not continue into the flavor. It is mostly chocolate, but a hint of toffee can still be noticed. Medium body, fairly creamy, with a bit of carbonation. Light chocolate aftertaste.

On tap @ Beer Temple. Color is black, head is beige, creamy. Aroma’s: Coffee, coffee and coffee, plus roast and just a hint of lactose and fruit. Flavor is light sweet, roasted, a little fruity, coffee. Body is a bit thin, bit fuller would have made this truly great. Finishes medium bitter and roasted, quite dry. Still very nice.

Draft at Beer temple! Black color with a Beige head that not keep a lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, smoked wood. Taste is bitter with notes of roasted malt, bitter chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel is awesome and long keeping a smoked bitterness feeling. Very good! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone 4S
