crowderm (151), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Apr 29, 2008 Pours a nice deep black with a thin dark tan head. The aroma is mostly of dark, roasted malts with some hints of cream/oatmeal. The flavor hits first with a big, dark roasty character, which then fades away into a simple but very pleasant coffee/dark chocolate finish. Very nice creamy mouthfeel. Very nice stout overall.
IMtheOptimator (1092), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Jun 26, 2008 Poured dark brown with ruby highlights and a large fizzy/frothy brown head. Rich sweet aroma of chocolate, dark fruit, a bit of alcohol, some light bitter coffee. Flavor follows with notes of roasted coffee beans, some 60% cacao bitter chocolate, a bit of vinous fruits, some dry alcohol. I’m impressed how this beer balances sweetness and bitter roastiness. At first I thought they traded off, with sweetness coming first and bitterness following, but as I went though the glass I felt more that they somehow worked side-by-side, the virtual ideal for a milk stout. Mouth feel is sufficiently creamy for the style. Overall I was very impressed by beer which finally penetrated my select group of favorite stouts that are not brewed Bell’s. fishingnet (696), Brandon, Florida, USA Jun 23, 2008 Bottle courtesy of someone from the Tampa crew. Pours black with a small tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, and sweet malt. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium creamy mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and well hidden alcohol. Very good. Rciesla (674), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 18, 2008 Bottle.
