4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Schouskjelleren, march 29nd 2014. Black body, small beige head. Aroma of blueberries, roasted malt, vanilla. Massive sweet blueberry taste, dark chocolate, roasted malt and licorice. This one doesn’t play around just teasing you with hints of blueberries like so many others, it’s the real deal and delivers a tremendous blueberry taste. I love it!

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark almost black color with light khaki head. Head dissipates pretty quickly to a ring around the glass. On pop, the blueberry is very obvious, with tons of blueberry from even a couple feet from the glass. It smells just like fresh blueberry. The blueberry tones down after a bit and then you get some milk chocolate and a touch of roasted nut. Taste starts predominantly with coffee and dark malt, a touch of blueberry that quickly passes, milk chocolate, then dark roasted nuts and malt again. Carbonation is slightly prickly on the tongue and the finish is long and wavers between medium dark chocolate and bitter dark malt. This is pretty good and I wanted to like it more...

Bottle. Oily, shiny black pour with gentile beige lacing. Aroma has lots of blueberry pancake syrup with cocoa notes. Flavor is clearly impacted by the blueberry, but I don’t really get it specifically. I almost taste twigs. Slight earthiness with dark cocoa and a gentile roast. Slight blueberry permeates in the finish. Thin body. Nice.

Fat på The Flying Scotsman.
Svart vätska med lite brunt skum.
Mycket rostat, lite kaffe i doften.
Smaken är rätt tam, men efter en stund kommer en syrlighet av blåbär.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a nice 2 finger dark chocolate head. Body is pitch black with no light escaping. Head retention was surprisingly quickly diminished and lacing was above average.
Smells of freshly blended blueberries. Surprised that the blueberries smelled so fresh and not too sweet or artificial. Other aromas are of dark semi sweet chocolate, roasted espresso, and bits of smoked malt. Hops are nowhere to be found and alcohol is hidden well for a stout almost 8%.
Taste is bits of chocolate covered blueberries mixed with a smoked porter. Charred oak and some coffee cut the fruity sweetness. Light bitterness is in the aftertaste and alcohol is barely detected.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied but with a good amount of carbonation. Head died pretty fast, wish it stuck around to cut the carbonation.
Overall this beer was pretty good. Never had a blueberry stout before and I was pleasantly surprised. Extremely drinkable, wish it was available in my region.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled December 2nd and poured March 20th. $2.19 single.
Appearance: Pitch black with a seriously dark brown head that goes down quickly and leaves a small film on top of the beer. No lacing.
Smell: Welp, roast and blueberry. Dark chocolate covered blueberry kind of vibe, but with coffee in there as well. Pleasant to my nose holes. It doesn’t smell like a burst of blueberries all over the place, but it’s clearly there and not in an overbearing fashion.
Taste/feel: First thing I notice without a doubt is the body on this beer -- quite full with only a mildly prickly carbonation on it. The blueberry and other stouty characteristics work incredibly well together. There’s a sweet, slightly sour blueberry character, and then the roasted bitterness. Rather than dominate the beer, the blueberry compliments it very nicely without becoming too much. The blueberry is implemented very well in Tres, and Bell’s Cherry Stout is looking quite a bit less appetizing (if that’s even possible for some people) after having this. The sweetness and sour/tanginess from the blueberries in this beer doesn’t leave an unappealing, artificial sort of aftertaste that Bell’s Cherry Stout does. The aftertaste is very mildly bitter with a blueberry flavor. As a whole, this isn’t a bitter beer much at all, thanks to the blueberries. There’s a slight bit of it from the roasted malt, which is to be expected, but it’s nicely balanced overall. As for the alcohol, not noticeable at all in any way.
One of my new favorites from Dark Horse. It’s not often you see a fruit infused stout turn out to be as tasty as this one is. Again, the blueberry is there to accent this beer -- not turn it into fruit juice. If I had any complaint, it’d be that I’d like it to be a bit more bold on the flavor. More blueberry and more roasty depth. This stuff tastes great as it is, but uhm... maybe an Imperial version, Dark Horse? Just a thought. Definitely try this one out.

You really wouldn't think it would work, but somehow it does. The flavor of the berry without the cloying sweetness. Well done.

Blueberry flavoring hard to detect. Nice taste, didn’t love the palate. Great looking dark color.
