From notes. Aroma: intense grain, cereal and toasted malts, some caramel, light fruitiness. Appearance: clear, dark brown, medium, frothy, beige head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: some bitters coming up, remaining very light, grain malts again, some toasted malts, dark fruits. Overall: quite a decent ESB, liked the intense flavours. Pint at CASK Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico.

Cask gravity @ LCBF 2013. Pours a dark ruby amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty peaty hoppy caramel aroma. Fruity malty hoppy caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty caramel hoppy finish.

Cask conditioned at York Beer Festival ’13. Dark brown with cream head. It was certainly a malted beer, fairly earthy, grainy a hint of boiled caramel but also dryish. Just a little dull I thought.

Half pint at the Nags Head in Reading. Black with dark red highlights, bubbly head. Nicely hopped, lightly bitter, a touch zesty, smooth with good body. Zesty spice aroma. Quite a nice sipper. Hint of licorice.

Cask conditioned handpump Wenlock Arms London 06/09/13. A near black coloured beer with an off-white bubbly head. Smoky, malty, fruity, hoppy and with coffee flavours. Just so much going on and very well constructed. A beautiful beer. So drinkable. So complex yet so balanced.

Cask at the Cask, 30/08/13. Mahogony brown with a good sized tan covering. Nose is dark malts, hop notes, toffee, brown sugar, faint tropical fruit tang. Taste comprises bready malts, sugar, toffee, biscuit, earthy hoppy backbone, light pine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation. Nice stuff - a hopped up affair making for a drinkable drop in this otherwise tedious and ’made up’ style !

Cask at the Evening Star, Brighton on 26th August 2013. Almost black with pale tan head. Spicy, smoky aroma. Smoky in-mouth with savoury notes. Some fruity berries in the finish otherwise continuing in much the same vane - delicious smokiness and roasts. Rich smooth mouthfeel and plenty of body.

Not a traditional 80/- but no complaints. Dark brown with roasty chocolate aroma. Flavour has toasty and earthy dark malt plus pronounced citrus hoppiness, dry finish.

Cask at Cambridge Blue. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is roasty, chocolate, dark fruit, caramel and faint smoke. The taste is smooth, dark fruit, berry, roasty, toast, light bitterness, earth and some light medicinal/smoky notes with a lingering dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well-integrated. Nice work.
