Always a bonus when I stumble across a new rate in my local and this one didn’t let me down!
Extremely dark mahogony brown with a frothy beige head that retains well.
Nose is dark malts, good hop presence, vanilla, touch of coffee, dark fruits, spice.
Taste comprises dark malts, light cocoa, hops, brown sugars, dark fruits.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish.
An eminently drinkable hopped up low ABV porter!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 berkshirejohn (3643) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - FEB 27, 2013
Cask at the Albion, Winchester. Magohany in colour with a cherry red glow and thin cream coloured top; aroma of Vimto; soft and fruity in the mouth, with a cherry flavour and a sharp piney bitterness; before a dry and warming finish with some burnt treacle and coffee grounds. It’s hard to believe this is only 3.5% ABV, it is a trifle thin, but otherwise excellent.
