COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a low gravity beer with a big heart. A range of dark malts bring classic roasted flavours along with a hint of sweetness through the natural complex sugars. Warrior bittering hops are used, along with a blend of the finest aroma hops to add fruit and spicy flavours that are the perfect balance, making this a very drinkable ale.

(Cask at Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak, London, 24 Apr 2013) Dark brown colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark bread, chocolate and toasty malt. Malty, roasted taste with dark bread, chocolate, coffee and a certain piney bitterness in the finish. Light body, quite dry. Highly drinkable and quite nice.

Cask at the Three Tuns, Bristol. Dark red black with a thin white head and fresh aromas of pine and citrus hops. Roasty hoppy palate with burnt bitterness and a hint of black treacle. Lasting bitter hop edge. Delicious.

On cask at The Ale House, Chelmsford, 31/03/13. Translucent red-black. Quite eggy, but drinkable. Would be an OK, light-bodied, roasty, dry porter, otherwise.

Cask at the Cask Pub and Kitchen. Pours a real black colour with a thin white head, aroma is dark malts and hoppy, the taste is malty and has some fruit, with a long dry bitter finish.

Pretty hoppy for such a dark beer, especially in the finish. Some sweetness, slightly thin of palate but a really enjoyable beer.

Pint at the Nags Head in Reading. Black, with a generous creamy head. Floral, light hoppy aroma, zesty. A touch dry and hoppy. Light and smooth. A fair pint and easy drinking, but nothing special.

Cask at the Half Moon, Windlesham, 27/02/13. Always a bonus when I stumble across a new rate in my local and this one didn’t let me down! Extremely dark mahogony brown with a frothy beige head that retains well. Nose is dark malts, good hop presence, vanilla, touch of coffee, dark fruits, spice. Taste comprises dark malts, light cocoa, hops, brown sugars, dark fruits. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish. An eminently drinkable hopped up low ABV porter!

Cask at the Albion, Winchester. Magohany in colour with a cherry red glow and thin cream coloured top; aroma of Vimto; soft and fruity in the mouth, with a cherry flavour and a sharp piney bitterness; before a dry and warming finish with some burnt treacle and coffee grounds. It’s hard to believe this is only 3.5% ABV, it is a trifle thin, but otherwise excellent.
