Cask. Dark reddishbrown, almost black. Roasted malts, well balanced chocolate aroma, a hint of coffee and licorice. Dryish taste, slightly sour roastedness. Slick texture, a bit thin maybe. Good stuff.

(Draught.) Opaque, very dark brown, with a bubbly, beige head. Intense aroma of heavily roasted malts, with notes of espresso, chocolaty mocha, and strong black tea. Slightly ashy with a hint of smokiness. Flavor roughly reflects aroma, albeit somewhat watery, with more prominent notes of tea, and a hint of dark berries. Long, roasted aftertaste. Very mild carbonation, medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel. Different and fairly enjoyable.

Cask@Old Bank, Turku. Quite much pitch black colour, mediumsized longlasting brown head. Aroma is chocolate, mild coffee, some roasted malts and also dark dry fruits. Flavour is quite much the same. A very pleasantly balanced stout.

Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear BF 09. Bit of a disappointment really as I love this brewery and they normally produce really good tasty beers. Black with ruby edges. It’s disappointing, like a watered down porter with only some choc, definitely not double choc.

(Cask at Angleterre) Poured almost black with medium sized and light brown head. Aroma contained coffee, chocolate and roastedness. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, coffee, roastedness, chocolate and bitterness. Aftertaste was almost acrid and roasty.

Cask Real Ale 0.25L glass. Pale brown head (5mm). Dark black reddish colour. Quite dry taste. Slight sourness. Taste of dark bittersweet chocolate. Excellent dry stout. At the end soft chocolatey nose from the glass bottom.

Cask at Pigs Ear beer festival, London 2009. Deep ruby coloured pour with beige head. Chocolate aroma. Roasty, chocolaty, sweet taste. Easy drinking, pleasant chocolate stout from Dark Star.

Cask at the Pig’s Ear Fest ’09 and at The Rake. Alround rating: Im rating the cask in the rake, as the one in the pigs ear was in terrible condition. Fairly roasty malt, chocolate does come through but just not as much as id like it too, some peppery grassy hop adds a tingle. It could be excellent if it had more chocolatey sweetness, but still a nice one.
