Cask@GBBF07. The aroma is pure espresso indeed. Black color, beige head, good lace. Absolutely tastes like and espresso as well. But the burnt malts is a bit too much for me and it’s also on the thin side.

Wow this rocks!
Really like dark star too - good progressive brewery!
Lovely strong deep dark brown with small carmamel head.
Aroma is coffee and roasted malts and barley.
Absolutely jam packed with coffee and expresso flavours, not a great deal of complexity to it but great none the less.
nice lingering bitter finsh.
would love to taste a 8% version - double expresso stout anyone.

Cask, Newark Fest 07. Very dark with a small head. Aromas are roast coffee with dry, earthy notes. Flavours are fresh black coffee with some grainy aspects. Some hints of sulphur with a bitter, bitter finish. No better than the bottled version.

Watery, unbalanced, unsubtle bitterness.

Cask (St. Urho’s, Helsinki, Porter and Stout days 2007).
Starts a bit odd - smells of drains. However, the second sniff hints at coffee. The third sniff even more. However, when you taste it, you’ll realise why it’s called what it is - it simply tastes like coffee!

Headless pitch half at The Merchant, Rugby. Slightly vinegary chocolate snout opening up as it warms. A sniff of Young’s Double Choc Stout. More bitter cocoa than coffee bean. But follows through with a deeply roasty bitterness, as you’d expect. Some late chewy hoppiness emerging. A tastily bittersweet and hoppy stout.

A Mes rate:
Gravicask @ Planet Thanet. Milky coffee and not much else going on in the aroma but damn its good. Black body with a well behaved tan head that is clearly enhanced by the coffee. More milky roasted beans in the mouth with plenty of dark roasted malt and lots of yeasty bready notes. In fact it’s like well done toast rather than bread. Lovely. Excellent smooth creamy palate. You need to like coffee but if you do, it’s great.

[Cask from Blackfriars] Pitch black with a moderate tan head. Strong fresh coffee aroma and not much else. Medium to full bodied with a very dry roasted coffee finish. Nice beer if you like coffee, which I do.

Aroma gives a serious amount of coffee, roasted malts and some toothpasty grassy hops coming through. Taste is simialr though not as bitter intence cofee, id agree with others when they say its not as complex as it could be, but not nessesrly a bad thing.
