Cask @ Croydon BF ’07. Heavy coffee aroma, earthy and malty. Taste is again strong coffee with bitter finish. Definitely one for coffee fans and quite drinkable.

Draught at the Wigan Beer Festival. This was my dark beer of the festival. Gorgeous, massive coffee aroma with a hint of tobacco and dried fruits. Huge coffee hit in the taste - the barman who served me said he’d been kept up all night after drinking a few of these and I can well believe him. Well balanced palate and an excellent dry, bitter finish. Superb.

Great specialty beer. Coffee flavour is quite strong and almost independent from the beer’s flavour, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your taste. Thick texture and sweet feeling.

The colour is opaque black; the white foam is compact and smooth.
The smell is… Coffee, coffee and some more coffee!
The carbonation is very mild, it borders on the stale. But I think that this might be suitable for this very special beer style.
The somewhat mild taste is dominated by a sweet coffee-flavour. Beyond the black coffee, there are some notes of canned vegetables and coffee caramels. The aftertaste is, again, dominated by coffee with hints of whipped cream, cocoa and a minimal touch of hops.
I almost could feel the grounds in my mouth after drinking this beer. I think that the taste could have been a little stronger than this.
I have used the word “coffee” eight times in this review. That might be a sign of something…
According to the brewery, "Specially blended and ground espresso coffee beans are added to the copper". An unusual adjunct beer!

Draft @ Oliver Twist in Stockholm. This pint certainly lives up to its name, with a distnict coffee bean aroma and taste. Unlike other coffee beers I’ve tried the low(ish) abv meant the body of this beer was quite thin and flat, making it taste like a forgotten cup of cold coffee. Unusual and worth trying for the novelty value but I personally couldn’t drink more than one of these.

Cast at The Artillery Arms, Ramsgate: Black beer with little to no head. A little thin in the mouth maybe but not too much of an issue. Aroma is mainly coffee with a little chocolate and smoke. Flavour is incredibly intense, it’s like getting a rich tasty stout and dropping a double espresso in. Really caught me off guard. Towards the end of the pint the coffee became a little overpowering. But for just the one pint this is an intriguing and delicious beer.

Dark burnt amber, strong nose of well cooked espresso. Dry on the palate, simple, not overly entertaining. A little strange. Some chocolate notes.
