Espresso is a black beer with fully roasted barley malt and challenger hops but with freshly ground espresso coffee beans added to the copper for a few minutes after the boil to provide a complementary coffee aroma.

500ml bottle from Peckham’s, Glasgow (£2.39):
Coffee & roasted malts too. The espresso is very apparent and there is a dryness to the beer with some milky cocoa coming through as well. There is some barley too and a touch of bitterness.
Black with a 2cm foamy head that is a medium to dark tan in colour and holds pretty well.
Coffee & espresso upfront but there is more milkiness than from the nose, Medium strength chocolate & some roasted malts with some bitterness follow. Some faint background fruits make an appearance towards the end too.
A dry taste with medium bitterness and a medium body. Carbonation is light medium and there is a nice, well balanced bitterness to the finish.

Strong coffee & espresso flavours that thankfully don’t overpower too much. Surprisingly well balanced and enjoyable offering. Quite a nice beer overall.

The instant coffee of espresso beers. Not smooth at all, watery, and very disappointing.

(Bottle): Pours almost black, small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, black coffee, smokey notes. Big roasted malt flavour balanced with the bitter espresso flavour, some dark chocolate notes and bready notes accompany. Super drinkable and great flavours.

Wonderful chocolatey coffee aromas but no depth to taste. Thin watery burnt espresso taste and then fades quickly to nothing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. pours a deep dark, browny black with a ruby edge and a tan head. the aroma is... toasty black coffee with some dark fruit and a hint of vanilla sweetness. Medium body, mild carbonation. Its OK - not quite rich enough, lacking a bit of body and depth. But there are some really good flavours there. There’s a touch of sweetness, some smoke, toast, a little veg, peat, fruit, a bit of ash. Pretty tasty.

50 cl. bottle sampled @ Kraddel does 1K tasting. Provided / procured @ T-Drinks. Cheers. BBF 02/2015. Pours a dark brown, light black shades, mocha bubbles for a head. Nose is pure bitter roasted coffee and espresso bean, light roast and touch chocolate. Taste is bitter roasted espresso beans, dark bread malts, lightly sweetish, chocolate, small hint vanilla, touch of roasted malts but espresso and coffee dominates the flavour. Touch light body. Quite enjoyable and easy to drink overall.
