Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada May 5, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Subtle coffee stout full of subtlety. Very tasty for its size. I miss England.
I like:
Tall frothy beige head. Very well-balanced! The espresso never display any of that beany vegetal character that is so common in coffee stout. The yeast undertones are stunning, complex, subtle. Lots of house character and in a filtered coffee beer at that! Very well extracted maltiness procures a solid, firm palate, excellent compromise between drinkability and engaging size. Clean finishing bitterness.
I dislike:
This is a type of beer I generally dislike, but this was a stunning example.
jbrus (4184), Delft, Netherlands Oct 9, 2008 Bottle@Home. Strong espresso aroma. Black coloured, light brown head, good lace. Light sweet, bitter, strongly roasted, pure espresso indeed. Roasted dry mouthfeel, thinnish, oily. First I thought it was quite flavorful, but half way the bottle it started to taste like cold coffee more and more. This made it very one dimensional. goozen (763), Leiden, Netherlands Jul 19, 2008 Bottle pint: Black but in the upper regions of the glass dark brown, oe of the nearist thing to coffee in the beer-world. dunkpigen (283), Kolding, Denmark Jul 14, 2008 Bottle. Almost black with an offwhite head. Aroma and flavour of coffee filter and roasted malt. Harsh and also thin. BoozyBugger (15), Glasgow, Scotland Jul 9, 2008 Tasted at Chelmsford beer festival 08. Strong coffee nose with malt undertones. Smoke and coffee taste with a slight sourness in the aftertaste. MiP (6029), Flensburg, Germany Jul 7, 2008 Bottle, 4.2% at ÅBF08. Mild chocolate aroma. Roasted flavour, sour aftertaste.
