3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 16, 2007
Cask@St Albans BF 06. This was one i had been looking for for a while, but for some reason i have always missed it at festivals, or it wasn’t on yet. This was still quite nice, sme nice clean, lightly sweet malt characters, with a slightly grainy mouthfeel. Some subtle flowery hops in the finish, with a mild bitterness. Very drinkable.

Cask (gravity dispense) at St Albans Beer Festival, September 2006. Golden in colour. There’s a slightly unexpected maltiness in the aroma that I guess comes from the Munich malt. Smooth and clean on the palate with a decent balance of dry malt and tangy hop, although I couldn’t say the US hops make much of a showing. Pleasant enough. Perhaps not in perfect condition, because others have certainly noticed more zesty, citric hop character than I did.

(Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 24 Nov) Pale amber colour with frothy white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with distinct grapefruit notes. Fruity taste with a distinct grapefruit note, hints of lemon, and a nice hoppy finish. Very nice variation on the American pale ale style.

Cask handpull at Evening Star, Brighton. Aromatic autumnal ale according to the pump clip. Copper colour with lasting beige head. Aromatic American hop aroma, bit of cat pee. Good in mouth, decent juicy malt, before sherberty earthy hop cuts in and lasts and lasts. Beautifl. Utterly drinkable. Gorgeous hop/malt balance. Resiny piney hop.

Amber coloured bitter with tight white head. Extremely hoppy aroma & flavour, a great thirstquencher but I found it just a tad one dimensional.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Probiere (992) - Iowa, USA - NOV 28, 2005
Sparkling yellow, lightly carbonated, slightly cloudy. A mild melon-berry fruitiness followed by a biscuit middle and earthy-floral finish. A real bitter from England served on cask. About damn time I got ahold of one. I rather like it. Bright and fresh yet still substantial/
