Pub (4102), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Apr 8, 2004 Cask Conditioned at The Horse & Groom, Caulcott, Oxon. Golden with perfect head. This is Dark Star Hophead's big brother, if you like hops, then this is the boy for you. A glorious whoosh of bitterness greets the first mouthful with a heady citrus and peppery twang. Fantastic balance that allows the bitterness to come through. There is a pine nut note in the finish, top quality bitter.
Magic_dave6 (3975), London, Greater London, England Oct 21, 2007 Cask in Blackfriers. Aroma is bursting with pineaple and peach, seriously furity cirtus and well rounded. Taste is more balanced as you can get the pale malt character, but the hop character domoinated as is excellently drinkable and just another really well made dark star. duff (5407), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Mar 16, 2007 Cask@St Albans BF 06. This was one i had been looking for for a while, but for some reason i have always missed it at festivals, or it wasn’t on yet. This was still quite nice, sme nice clean, lightly sweet malt characters, with a slightly grainy mouthfeel. Some subtle flowery hops in the finish, with a mild bitterness. Very drinkable. chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England Dec 30, 2006 Cask (gravity dispense) at St Albans Beer Festival, September 2006. Golden in colour. There’s a slightly unexpected maltiness in the aroma that I guess comes from the Munich malt. Smooth and clean on the palate with a decent balance of dry malt and tangy hop, although I couldn’t say the US hops make much of a showing. Pleasant enough. Perhaps not in perfect condition, because others have certainly noticed more zesty, citric hop character than I did.
Svesse (1806), Hässelby, Sweden Dec 2, 2006 (Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 24 Nov) Pale amber colour with frothy white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with distinct grapefruit notes. Fruity taste with a distinct grapefruit note, hints of lemon, and a nice hoppy finish. Very nice variation on the American pale ale style. harrisoni (5307), Ashford, Kent, England Nov 11, 2006 Cask handpull at Evening Star, Brighton. Aromatic autumnal ale according to the pump clip. Copper colour with lasting beige head. Aromatic American hop aroma, bit of cat pee. Good in mouth, decent juicy malt, before sherberty earthy hop cuts in and lasts and lasts. Beautifl. Utterly drinkable. Gorgeous hop/malt balance. Resiny piney hop.
