Delicate Downland Elderflower
A delicate and lightly hopped beer with the fresh fruitiness of South Down’s elderflowers which are added after the boil to preserve their delicate aroma.

Cask at Craft Beer Co, London. Tom wisely chose this as my first pour of the afternoon, and right off the bat I was terrifically impressed with Dark Star’s ability to create such complexity and depth in such a low ABV beer. Handsome pour, nice fulsome body, and an understated but intriguing nose. Taste was dry, floral, and quite refreshing but with a modest complexity that was the tits.

Gravity dispense at the 1st Runnymede Beer Festival - 08/09/12. Clear pale golden with a thin white head that soon dissipates. Sweet nose of elderflower, floral hops and a little caramel malt. Herbal tones in the taste and a little spice. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation leading to a sweet floral finish.

Cask @ CPK. Pours a light gold color with a discreet white head. The nose is strong elderflower, light white pepper, orchard fruits, white grape. The taste is delicate summery pale malt, sweet apricot. Plenty of elderflower and mildly herbal spice. Creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Overall, well made, pleasant. I’m not a massive fan of elderflower, but this was a nice co-option of those flavors.

On cask @ CASK Pub & Kitchen, London. This is a near clear golden one with a nice medium sized white head. It smells quite nice also, a bit sweet and lime-acidic with a hint of something light mild floral. The taste is really good! It has a sweetness - almost vanilla sweetness over it, and it’s also softly bitter. So so easy to just quench down. Ends with a hint of perfumed dry soap - but only in a good way. Enjoyable. 22.07.2012

Cask @ Akkurat. Lovely sweet aroma with notes of elderberries and grape. The taste is quite herbal and has got the dryness of the elderberry flowers. Light and sweet.

Cask at Akkurat. Nice brew with lots of elder taste, both the bitter, sweet and dry qualities.

On cask at Cloisters. Pours a blonde colour with a floral aroma of elderflower, pine, grassy hops, caramel and alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel.

Cask @ Craft Beer Co., London. Clear yellow color, small white head. Smell very fresh, hoppy and bitter. Taste bitter, lightly hops, fruity and fresh. Little bit watery texture. Low to medium carbo and body.

Cask at Craft Beer Co, London. Slightly hazy golden color. Very flowery aroma. Flowery and juicy elderberry taste is upfront, standard golden ale comes later. Works, but not my favourites.

Cask in Craft Beer Co. Clear golden colour, bubbly head, nice lacing on glass. Nose is floral sweet, citrous and hay. Taste is lovely elderflower floral notes with some citrous and bitter notes. Fairly dry on the finish. Really refreshing mouth feel.
