COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottle Conditioned;
Imperial Stout is a truly special beer which harks back to the days when English brewers exported strong stouts and ports to the Baltics. Brewed with a high proportion of roasted barley and target hops, this is complex beer with a big flavour. Our bottle conditioned Imperial Stout has been aged at the brewery so you may enjoy it now, although it will continue to improve for many years.

Bottle from Bitter Virtue. Black with quick fading tan head. Aroma is muted a bit, roasted malt and a hint lactic. Really nice stout, smooth as hell, roasted chocolate body with an acidic finish. Well done.

My Bottom Line :
This characterful Imperial Stout distinguishes itself through its peppery tones that evolve alongside Medjool dates, wood and vinosity.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sturdy head of foam decorates the pitch black, lacing nicely.
-Some licorice root notes appear in the middle as well.
-The hop finish is earthy and leafy.
-Alcohol is present throughout, but not exaggeratingly so.
-This is yet another compelling Dark Star beer. It doesn’t taste like any other Imperial Stout I know, and it is of course perfectly rendered.

Bottle.

Just the way I like an imperial stout to be, black, full and a mouthful of resin. Wobbled a bit after this. Must be good. Very tasty, well done Dark Star. How many more to go?

Bottle from Kris Wines. bbf of 09/14. Pours really dark with barely a hint of light coming through. Aroma is a bit medicinal boozy, treacly, dark sugars, and fruits, rum is there but not in a big way. Aroma reminds me a bit of Bracia but that may be expecting too much. Tastes good. Rich and boozy, with, actually not that much, the medicinal pepto bismol thing I was expecting. There’s licorice , treacle, choc, a bit of cherry, some coffee (not much) and the booze is pretty upfront but even tasting it now its good - I’d imagine it will become more balanced given some time. Anyway, it’s a very nice late night sipper.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. This black beer has a slight sour fruity flavour, chocolate and sugary sweet notes with a warming chocolate finish.

Appearance: Black, 1cm tan head. Aroma: Prune sourness, fruit cake, vinous/ cognac note, hint of orange marmalade, touch of marzipan. Taste: Medium sweetness, medium bitterness, low/medium sourness. Palate: Smooth silky texture, with thick body and full mouthfeel, low/average carbonation, slightly astringent, lingering alcohol warmth and lasting bitterness in the aftertaste. Comments: Lovely. Left a glass lace.

Probably the best beer I’ve had from Dark Star. But even this is not partilcarly exciting. A very creamy, buttery stout with bitter roasted malts, a strong vanilla note and quite warm on the troat going down.

330 ml bottle.
Pours a black colour with a small white head. Aroma of cherries, dark chocolate, wood and some alcohol. Flavour of roasted malts, alcohol, wood, raisins, vanilla, licorice and some slightly tart berries. Full bodied, oily mouthfeel and a silky smooth, roasty, warming alcohol finish. A rather heavy imperial stout with strong alcohol presence.

Black pour. Big tan head with some lacing. Slight malt aroma, but mostly alcohol. Watered down chocolate shake taste. A bit of malt. Tastes pretty good despite the previous notes. Not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Disappointing. This is the 2012 version. For an imperial lacks body. Pours ok, black with a good tan head but it thins quickly. Roasted malt in the nose but starts to disappoint in the mouth, Thin whilst reasonably balanced, soft but lacks depth and complexity and the 10.5% overwhelms. Maybe will improve with age.
