Cask & Bottle Conditioned;
Imperial Stout is a truly special beer which harks back to the days when English brewers exported strong stouts and ports to the Baltics. Brewed with a high proportion of roasted barley and target hops, this is complex beer with a big flavour. Our bottle conditioned Imperial Stout has been aged at the brewery so you may enjoy it now, although it will continue to improve for many years.

(Bottle): Pours black with a brown head. Aroma of liquorice, vinous qualities, dark fruits, roasty and a very slight alcohol character. Flavour is roasty and sweet, slight coffee, lots of dark fruits, alcohol, vinous, treacle, liquorice. Very smooth to drink. Gives a slight alcohol burn but very slight. The beer would benefit from a thicker body.

Black with light brown head. Really nice aroma, full off dark roast, liquorice, maybe a hint of rum? Really nice. A bit light on the tongue but nice roast in the finish. Well made and really good but fails maybe to be world class.

Strong vinous coffee aroma. The taste is full of caramell, chocolate, roast and some coffee. A little overcarbonated and maybe slightly bitter than I would prefer. Balanced and solid imperial stout.

Bottle, shared with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: pitch black beer, small unstable beige head. NOSE: coffee, alcohol, wood. TASTE: herbs, bitter aftertaste, could be better for it’s alcohol!

Bottle from Bitter Virtue. Black with quick fading tan head. Aroma is muted a bit, roasted malt and a hint lactic. Really nice stout, smooth as hell, roasted chocolate body with an acidic finish. Well done.

My Bottom Line :
This characterful Imperial Stout distinguishes itself through its peppery tones that evolve alongside Medjool dates, wood and vinosity.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sturdy head of foam decorates the pitch black, lacing nicely.
-Some licorice root notes appear in the middle as well.
-The hop finish is earthy and leafy.
-Alcohol is present throughout, but not exaggeratingly so.
-This is yet another compelling Dark Star beer. It doesn’t taste like any other Imperial Stout I know, and it is of course perfectly rendered.

Just the way I like an imperial stout to be, black, full and a mouthful of resin. Wobbled a bit after this. Must be good. Very tasty, well done Dark Star. How many more to go?

Bottle from Kris Wines. bbf of 09/14. Pours really dark with barely a hint of light coming through. Aroma is a bit medicinal boozy, treacly, dark sugars, and fruits, rum is there but not in a big way. Aroma reminds me a bit of Bracia but that may be expecting too much. Tastes good. Rich and boozy, with, actually not that much, the medicinal pepto bismol thing I was expecting. There’s licorice , treacle, choc, a bit of cherry, some coffee (not much) and the booze is pretty upfront but even tasting it now its good - I’d imagine it will become more balanced given some time. Anyway, it’s a very nice late night sipper.
