Cask & Bottle Conditioned;
Imperial Stout is a truly special beer which harks back to the days when English brewers exported strong stouts and ports to the Baltics. Brewed with a high proportion of roasted barley and target hops, this is complex beer with a big flavour. Our bottle conditioned Imperial Stout has been aged at the brewery so you may enjoy it now, although it will continue to improve for many years.

Bottle from an off licence in Kew, London. Poured black with a halo of tan head. Strong burnt malt aroma with notes of plums and marmite. Full mouth feel. Slightly salty initial flavours with some Oxo, molasses and dark grain. Finish was earthy with some burnt toast mixed with black cherry sweetness.

the 2012 brew of this fine strong stout. A lovely smooth and rich beers which drinks very easily considering it’s ABV. I would rate this very highly as a bottled stout, does not have the bitterness sometimes associated with this style of stout, yet it is interesting on the palate and a beautifully made beer

Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Black with a tan head. Aroma of lots of dark chocolate, some liqueur pralines and dark fruits notes. Bittersweet flavor with chocolate, roastiness, a bit of liqueur, dark fruits notes, an alcoholic edge and a slightly more bitter finish. Medium to full-bodied. Very nice.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. A very strong stout, drinkable given its strength but it does hit you after a while. Black with very little head. Surprisingly it’s quite light in character with more stated roasted malt aroma than taste.

33cl, Vintage 2012, as Dark Star Imperial (Export Strength Stout), exclusive English brew, from Ales By Mail (UK), complex Stout, roasted/spicy and slightly salty/malty, balanced, hazy, good head, good brew, yet expensive!

(Bottle): Pours black with a brown head. Aroma of liquorice, vinous qualities, dark fruits, roasty and a very slight alcohol character. Flavour is roasty and sweet, slight coffee, lots of dark fruits, alcohol, vinous, treacle, liquorice. Very smooth to drink. Gives a slight alcohol burn but very slight. The beer would benefit from a thicker body.

Black with light brown head. Really nice aroma, full off dark roast, liquorice, maybe a hint of rum? Really nice. A bit light on the tongue but nice roast in the finish. Well made and really good but fails maybe to be world class.
