3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Spiesy (2336) - Sydney, - MAY 13, 2004
Cask Conditioned, at the Wenlock Arms, London. Engine oil black with a thick, juicy brown head. Rich caramel and smooth, smooth toasted malt flavours. Very silky. The Wenlock was on fire this Sunday eve with 4 high quality rates and a fresh cask of Brewers Gold on, that was amazing as well. Consequently I was home late considerably fuller than I had planned.

A Mes rate: Keg at The Evening Star. Dark mahogany with a slight tan head. Milky cereal aroma with lots of oats and a light tobacco hint. Malt and wheat in the flavour with more tobacco and a reasonable bitter chocolate finish.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 haddonsman (1234) - Derby, Derbyshire, ENGLAND - FEB 28, 2007
Cask (gravity) London Drinker festival 2006. A reasonable stout, but perversly chewy and washy at the same time. Good roast and choc flavours but (almost literally) pales by comparison to other Dark Star stouts we tried that day.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 TheGrandMaster (2313) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 18, 2006
Pint poured at The Evening Star in Brighton, very dark with a creamy tan head. Aroma is of roasted coffee. Tastes stronger than its 4.2%, flavours of cherries and molasses, a bit tart.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 13, 2006
Cask (gravity dispense), London Drinker Beer Festival, March 2006. Very roasty, with plenty of coffee in the aroma. More deep malt o=in the flavour, with chocolate backup. Oatmeal stouts often have some residual sweetness, but not this one. Resoundingly dry, with a lasting, distinctly bitter finish. Light, but smooth, mouthfeel. I like it!
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 biz82 (1328) - austin, Texas, USA - MAY 6, 2006
On nitro at their pub in Brighton. Looks like Guinness. Mild, burnt coffee aroma. Very smooth and fruity with acrid burnt mald and coffee flavors. Finishes clean and bitter. Nice.

Cask at the London Drinker Festival. Dark brown stout with sweet, roasty flavour and perhaps a touch thin.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Aarleks (408) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAR 31, 2006
Cask, The Wenlock: With my London guide, Duff. Dusty black and emitting fantastic coffee and oat aromas. This carried through perfectly in the mouth with lots of coffee, oat-goodness, and a lovely lingering roastiness. Really nice flavours that are very well done indeed. Excellent.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 kook (2033) - Perth, Western Australia, AUSTRALIA - MAR 30, 2006
Cask (London Drinker 06): Black with a brown head. Breakfasty. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Sweet choc, toasty oats. Dry finish. Tasty stuff.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 30, 2006
Cask@The Wenlock Arms, London. Me and Aarleks were kindly poured this before it came on tap. This was a very drinkable stout. Roasty and lightly bitter, yet remains quite soft. Not the biggest in body for a stout, but quite tasty none-the-less. Nice one.
