COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
A Best Bitter brewed in a traditional Sussex style using Maris Otter, Crystal and Chocolate malts with East Kent Golding hops. Typical of Dark Star ales, the Best Bitter relies on the heavy handed addition of aromatic hops late in the boil.

Cask @ CPK. The pour’s a light amber brown with a faint white head. The nose is brown bread, berry, some caramel and a bit of eau du twig. The taste is pretty straight for a bitter - notes of caramel and berry. Decent smooth malty body with a lightly dry grassy finish. Well-rounded. A decent representation of the style. Nothing’s wrong here.

Cask at the Half Moon, Windlesham (Jan ’12) .Golden/amber in colour with a small ’off’ white head . Hop, fruit and a touch of sulphur on the nose, not unpleasent, but not alluring! Slightly sweet in taste for a bitter, with a small amount of hop biterness in the aftertaste. A hint of caramel and fruit in the background. Fairly thin in body and leading to a dry-ish finish. Not a bad beer, but the most disappointing I’ve sampled to date from Dark Star - they set high standards! Simply ’whelming’ !

Cask at the Howl at the Moon, N1. A mid coloured amber bitter, served in an old school tankard. This is an excellent bitter, tempting hop aroma, lovely interplay of malt with a bit of sweetness and then a pleasant but not overbearing hop finish. Very tasty for alcohol level.

Cask at Tap East. Pours a golden brown with a creamy off-white head. Malty applewood notes on the nose belie a sharp malty bitterness on the palate. Little stabs of pear sweetness on the back of the tongue and the roof of the mouth leave behind a really fresh semi-dry aftertaste like a golden sunset. Delicious and very moreish.

Amber colored, almost copper, pour. Small off-white head. Little bit of lacing. Malty aroma with a bit of hoppyness. Nice hop bitterness up front with some diacetyl notes. Finishes sweet with a slight bitterness.
