A Best Bitter brewed in a traditional Sussex style using Maris Otter, Crystal and Chocolate malts with East Kent Golding hops. Typical of Dark Star ales, the Best Bitter relies on the heavy handed addition of aromatic hops late in the boil.

Cask at the Euston Tap. Clear, rich gold pour with a foamy head. Toast, leafy hops, faint caramel aroma. Flavor is lightly sweet with crispy bread, leaves, some mild citric bitterness. Light bodied with average carbonation. Leafy and herbal hop finish, clings to the throat, some light malts, toast and straw. Nice beer, well balanced and layered.

Cask at the Half Moon, Windlesham (Jan ’12) .Golden/amber in colour with a small ’off’ white head . Hop, fruit and a touch of sulphur on the nose, not unpleasent, but not alluring! Slightly sweet in taste for a bitter, with a small amount of hop biterness in the aftertaste. A hint of caramel and fruit in the background. Fairly thin in body and leading to a dry-ish finish. Not a bad beer, but the most disappointing I’ve sampled to date from Dark Star - they set high standards! Simply ’whelming’ !
