3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
My Bottom Line:
This Golden Ale’s superb malt profile takes you into the very center of a kernel, as hops play around with verbena oil allusions and wooden lengths.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam lingers atop the clear golden.
-Dark Star brewers are brilliant with malt flavor definition. This is a ’simple’ Golden Ale and its malt are as three-dimensional and revealing as many brews with twice the alcohol, twice the number of malts, etc.
-The mouthfeel is comforting. Not too dry, but certainly not too sweet either.
-The flavor polished is very polished.
-Malts also share nut skin angles.

Bottle. Great golden beer. Lovely and fresh with a lovely balance between the floral and the bitter hops. Nice bit of malt, a few crumbs of biscuit and a glob of toffee in there as well. Light, refreshing with a dry finish. Beer garden, ahoy!

Nothing particularly exciting about this one. It does go down pretty easily but it’s lacking any strength in the flavour. The malt and hops are pretty dull.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear golden beer with a few bubbles and a frothy head. Smells of hop and slight citrus. Flavour isn’t particularly strong of anything really. The hop is there still with a zesty tang to it but there’s not a lot else going on. The finish is quite dry and pleasant though.

Bottle from Corks of Cotham. A pleasant golden ale. Smooth, well-balanced between sweet malt and fresh hops, aclean and well-rounded. Not my favourite style, but this is a good example of it.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, Booths, Penrith. Sweet malty aromas, quite an earthy taste, with hops coming in very late. Strangely reminiscent of mass produced tinned lager initially, but his gives to a far more enjoyable sherbet and peppery flavour, with a continental feel to it late on. Very summery, very drinkable.

Poured straw with a frothy, rapidly disappearing head. Aroma of citrus and restrained floral hops. Medium creamy body, flavour of subdued caramel malt and slightly sweet citrus hops.
