Cask (handpump) at the Wenlock Arms, April 2008. Said to be based on Autumn Equinox, but that is 4.5% rather than 4.0% so I’m not sure what is going on. Is this an aged cask from last year?. Deep copper colour. Some caramel malt in the aroma and carrying through onto the palate. Some nuts and dry fruity notes. Moist, herbaceous hop character comes in rather late but seemed a bit isolated from the beer’s other characteristics. Tasty enough, but not one of Dark Star’s more spectacular productions.

Cask at the Wenlock Arms, 19th April 2008, with Chris, Ian, Mes & the gang. Dark amber/copper colour with a hoppy aroma. Great hop bite which leads through to a lingering dryness. Nice stuff!

Cask handpull at Wenlock Arms. Festival special for Tim, who’s stag do this was. Chestnut colour with thin white head. Big rubbery malt on aroma. But in the mouth it comes alive. Great dryish malt, bit of stilton cheese. Lively hops on end. Very good best bitter.

A Mes rate: Cask at the Wenlock.
Red amber with a thin white rim. Very grassy and fresh with plenty of nice hoppage and some good earthy malt. Pleasant dryness to it. A decent solid bitter with a nice bittering finish. Drinkable and tasty.
