COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - Autumn and Winter.
Brewed with Chocolate and Crystal malts to produce this deep bronze coloured beer with a hint of malty flavour, bittered by the traditional Golding hop varieties, this is a classic strong bitter complimented by the aromatic warmth of Chinese stem ginger.

Cask@London Drinker. Hmmm, not good that this has ginger in it as i don’t like ginger as a flavour. Lemongrassy, ginger flavours dominate and citrus. this doesn’t mix well with the chocolate/caramel flavours from the malts. A confused beer.

Amber color. Small off-white head. No lacing. Malty aroma with a hoppy, spicy smell. More spice than anything. Taste is the same, but a watered down spicy taste close to a heather ale. Maybe juniper? Not the best winter warmer.

Cask @ O’Hara’s, Tampere.
Pours a dirty copper colour without a head (surprise). Aroma of toasted malts, nuts, rosehip and bread. Skunky flavour of toasted malts, nuts, rosehip, some sour fruits and perfume. Really unbalanced. Light bodied, dry mouthfeel and a dry, nutty and slightly sour finish. Not good at all.

Cask @ O’hara’s Freehouse, Tampere.
Pours clear copper colour with minimal head. Aroma of ripe fruits, cloud berries, grass and goose berry bujsh. Flavour of grass, mild fruits, caramel and goose berries. A bit too sour, probably lactic acid, fruity and quite bland.

Cask Conditioned Handpump Wig & Pen Northampton. A copper coloured beer with a whitish head. Ginger in the nose and mouth. Otherwise surprisingly normal. Clean and tasty, and the ginger works nicely. Not the winter warmer it claims to be on the pumpclip but it’s as drinkable as you’d expect from Dark Star.

Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 1, 2012
Cask at the Green Dragon, Croydon. It pours at amber, with a decent white head. The nose is sweet tinned fruit (pear/apple), lemon sherbet, soap and spice. The taste is soap, leather, wood, resin and warming spice, with a bitter-dry finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Ok.

Cask at O’Briens, brown with a coarse white head and a fruity an faintly vegetal nose. Initially malty then a gingery spiciness coming through, followed by a warming yet fruity finish, a hint of clove and nutmeg, and a dry bitter finish. Tasty but not as balanced as it could be.

(Cask at Dean Swift, Tower Bridge, London, 26 Nov 2011) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, malty nose with citrus, ginger and a touch of cinnamon. Fruity, malty taste with notes of citrus, ginger, cinnamon and a mild bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and quite spicy. Nice one.

Cask. Deep brown ale. Not as heavy as. It looks. Tastes slightly hoppy at. The end. Not bad
