Bottle poured into a plastic cup at Hunaphu... The beer is dark brown, almost black. Lots of tan head, good retention and lacing... The aroma is interesting to say the least, dark fruits with yeast, prunes, a bit of tartness, and lots of herbs and spices. I’m intrigued... The taste doesn’t pull together what’s going on in the nose and frankly we have a bit of a mess on our hands. All the great things about a quad are ruined as I get a lot of spices, like they tried to mix a quad and a gruit. I’m not a fan. If presented to you give this unique beer a try but be ready to share with lots of friends.

Pours a deep brown with a nice khaki-colored soft head. Tart-like aroma with a bit of a funk edge. Moderately sweet, the funk-tartness kicks in pretty quickly; its great, without being overwhelming. Texture is soft. A nice quad under the other elements. I notice grape and subtle spice notes. Quite complex yet subtle flavors that really blend nicely...definitely worth the $15 for the bottle from the Root Celler.

GABF 2011. Very black, no head. Very sour dark chocolate aroma-unpleasant. Flavor was sour, but not as sour as aroma. Sill big. Chocolaty, oak, bitter, and quite sour. Huge body, very burnt, boozy, a little astringent. Nothing fun here but the name.

Bottle thanks to someone at the freetail release! Pours a near black with a creamy brown head that dissipates slowly to the edge. Aroma has a good amount of fig with some dark grains and spices. Flavor begins with dark grains and spice and is joined by dark fruit in the finish.

25.4 oz bottle. My 50th quad rating! Seem to be a few variants, this one with 78666, listing raisins, elderberries, sage, wormwood, yarrow and brett. Cork comes out rather easily but still emits a loud pop. Dark brown with creamy tan frosting. Nose is caramel, chocolate, tart berries, root beer and earthy herbs. Medium to full body, coats the mouth; sour fruit tang but less than expected. Initially raisin and brown sugar, even a little sticky. Brett adds leather with mild apple, berry sweetness. Finish is dry and pithy with green spices. I’m enjoying this quite a bit. Works in an odd way.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt as well as lighter notes of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and wood, as well as a lighter notes of alcohol, leading to a dry woody finish.

750 ml bottle thanks to Craig. Pours a dark brown color with a medium off-white head. The aroma is dried fruit, heat, funky aspects, and herbal notes. The flavor is very unusual; raisins, some funkiness almost tartness, fruits, fairly hot, wormwood perhaps shows in the herbal character I get more sage than anything. Odd, funky and nice.

Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy. Pours dark brown with a bubbly light brown lingering head. Smells of chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, peaty, some tarte hints. Tastes slightly tarte with some nice velvety earthy hints, roasted malt, dry, spicy, chocolatey. Well balanced and enjoyable.

This doesnt look like the label... it said with brett.. But I think they the two beer were combined? Thanks to jason for the beer. Pours with stout like characteristics... Nice roasted malts, light tartness. Taste is nice... A mix between a stout, quad, and light sour.... Roasty maltiness, light flowers, slight tartness in the after taste.. Different and enjoyable... Medium body... No trace of the high alcohol content... Thanks J...

750ml bottle. Rating #2. Very dark black pour with a tan head. Real dark for a quad, looked more like a stout. Aroma was funky, very lightly sour with the usual quad characteristics. Flavor was the same, not sure I really liked it too much, but I like the idea behind it. (1581)

Unlabeled 750ml bottle. A: The pour is very dark, almost to the point of being black, with some reddish notes and a small tan head. The cork was almost impossible to get out of the bottle. S: Lots of different fruit aromas. Figs, plums, black currants, and black cherries all seem to be there. There’s a subtle tartness to the beer, which I find strangely appealing. Licorice, roast, and toffee are also there. T: The acidity and tartness is more pronounced on the palate. Dark fruits of all varieties are represented. The roasted character is a bit more subdued, but could also be a contributor to the acidity. Licorice, burnt sugar, and toffee provide the sweetness. M: Medium to full in body with a low to medium level of carbonation. O: Good but strange is a good way to describe this beer. I’d be interested to try it again to see how it develops.
