bottle shared at the pre-hunahpu tasting. this is certainly a beast of a beer. aroma and flavor were both dark fruits, cherry, tart, caramel, brown sugar, and i something i just can’t seem to put my finger on.

Pours a dark brown coor with a thin tan head. Aroma has anise, sage, chocolate truffle. Taste is sweet and a bit tart too. Medium bodied with an oily/slick texture. Pretty tasty and much better than it smells.

Big thanks to dcschiller for going to great lengths to get this beer so that I might get a chance to try it. Thanks Dave. It pours very very dark for the style and bordered on dark mahogany with a nice mocha head. The aroma is big with spicy black licorice and then a mild level of roasted malts and then sourness into the end of the draw. The taste starts with smooth sticky malts and some hefty malty crumbly sweetness before spicy black licorice (anise) helps to usher in a thin body aided by a modest level of sourness. Cool barleywine where the sourness helps balance out the rest of the beer. I got little in the way of hops that I could tell.

Bottle shared at the RBWG in Austin. Black pour with little to no head. Aroma is a little sour, dark fruit, and alcohol. Taste is brown sugar, plums, alcohol, baking spice, and yeasty.

Bottle shared at RBWG- Pour is black with no head..Nose is vanilla, chocolate, grapefruit, Smarties candy...Taste is a tad tart, with vanilla, dark fruits,chocolate..There is a lot going on with this kickass beer.

750ml bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Near black brew, very little head. This is one of the oddest beers I’ve ever had - tons going on. Anise, dark fruit, funk, cherry, roasted malt, sugar sweetness, and vinous. All over the place and very difficult to nail down.

(750ml bottle, batch 3-16 bottled 4-6 thanks to ericandersnavy) near black pour, very few bubbles. Nose is mildly sour, cherry, funky, tangerine and a hint of chocolate. Taste of cherry cough syrup, a bit sour, just a bit off, artificial flavors but a thick body.

(750ml bottle, courtesy of ericandersnavy) Pours an opaque dark brown (near black) body with a small tan head. Aroma of pine, cherries, vinous, grass, caramel, and perfume. Flavor of caramel, light vinegar, roasted malt, vinous, cherries, raisins, subtle mango, and brown sugar with a dry finish. Too many conflicting ingredients which lends to a messy byproduct.

Pours with a deep brown near black body and a small layer of tan foam that fades rather quick, but lasts as a ring. Some decent lace that get batted down by alcohol legs. Aroma is super vinous from a mile away. Brown sugar, red wine and kola nuts. Some cola as well. A touch of licorice and some other spice I can’t put a name to. Leather. Cherries. Flavors of are tart and a bit bitter. Hugely vinous, tobacco, leather, coffee, raisins, light sour. Coffee grinds and roast. Mark of the Yeast is a strange, roasty, belgiany, spicy beer to begin with. Adding these vinous qualities makes it all that more strange. Not offensive though, just weird. Quite warming. Rootbeer, ginger, sour cherries. A light burn on the finish. Medium to light bubbles, thick body. Slightly peppery alcohol. Strange.
