On draught at the brewpub in downtown Menomonie, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-hazy brownish caramel brew with a creamy off-white head that has excellent retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of slightly toasted dark malt, some roasted nuts, a hint of dark pitted fruits, powdery yeast, and some flowery hops. Taste is medium bodied, powdery toasted dark malt with a hint of mild yeast with more flavors of dry dark pitted fruits, and light dry herbs. Finish is slightly dry and has a nice balance of toasted dark malts and flowery hops. I’ve been to Düsseldorf twice and had my share of fresh altbiers. This is by far one of the best altbiers I’ve tired and would strongly recommend using this one to compare all other alts to which could save me a round-trip to Germany to get the real ones. Well done!

Danke schön to Skyview for sharing this growler! The bier was clear brown with thick white foam. In the aroma there was malt and grains. There was a lot of malt in the flavor along with a mild smokiness. Dry finish. Another excellent beer from Das Bierhaus. Wunderbar!

Thanks to skyview for this sample. A fantastic altbier. Amber color with a nutty roasted malt aroma. Smooth caramel malts with a lightly roasted character.

Growler courtesy of Skyview, who chose wisely in having this break up the streak of sour beers that were being consumed that day. Copper color with no head. Solid aroma of caramel malts and nuts. Floral hop flavor, dry and dusty grains, yet not to the point that it tastes like a grain silo. Very dry finish. Very tasty.

Thanks to Skyview for another growler from this awesome German-style brewery. Good malt aroma. Some salt in the flavor, more malt, crackers and bread. Medium palate and light red color. A success. Thanks Bob.

On tap at Das Bierhaus. Clear mahogany with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark malts, caramel, light fruit and faint chocolate. Taste of caramel, chocolate, light nuts and a touch of floralness. Finished up semi-dry with nominal bitterness.

A style that i feel is often overlooked at breweries. Maybe because the industry finds it boring? Not sure, whatever it is- this beer was fantastic. Clear mahogany, bright in every aspect. Bright fruits, like apple with a hint of fig. Caramel undertones are soft. Aroma was pleasent, a funny cinnamon and pepper smell. Another winner from Das Bierhaus.

Small pour (approx. 3 or 4 oz.), on tap at the brewpub. Consumed on 8-7-09. Caramel, buttery aroma. Diacetyl noticeable in smell (especially) and taste, but I am far less averse to diacetyl than most. Pours a clear amber/brown with beige head. Malty flavor features muffin taste and hops dryness in the finish. Light body. Soft, fluffy, and lively in the palate with some crispness.
