Baumgartner (32), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Jul 3, 2008 July 2nd, 2008 Sample platter. A very crisp aroma of straw with a light piney hop. The brew was a medium yellow, almost clear and a small off white head. Slightly sweet with a moderate bitter after taste. akevitt (93), Valhalla, Minnesota, USA Apr 16, 2008 Sep 29, 2007
Draught at the brewpub. This is a pilsner?!? That was my reaction the first time I had this beer. The beer was a cloudy gold color with mild carbonation. It had a delicious zesty-wheaty aroma and flavor. There was also a mild sweetness in the flavor. Definitely the best American Pilsener!! 1FastSTi (2357), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Jan 6, 2008 Thanks skyview for sharing this growler. The beer pours to a hazy pale yellow straw body with a white head. The aroma is buttered biscuits, noble Czech saaz hops. The flavor is simple buttered biscuits, saaz hops. The beer has an average palate but oddly didn’t make me think Pilsener. BBB63 (3681), La Porte, Indiana, USA Dec 17, 2007 Cheesehead YeAH 2007, thanks Bob for the growler: Golden hue with a fizzy fading head and some spotty lace. The aroma has notes of buttered bread, floral hops, mineral, and a hint of lemon zest. The taste is slightly bread and syrupy sweet with overwhelmed pils herbal hops somewhere in there. The mouth feel is flat and not refreshing like the style should be. Something just is not right with this beer, needs rerate. Ughsmash (2835), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Dec 17, 2007 Thanks to Bob for bringing the large, bad-ass growler! Poured hazy paler golden with a short cap of white head. The aroma picked up rather odd pineappley notes upfront along with some butter and lemon rind afterward.. nothing in here really did it for me. The flavor had more pineapple and some bready pils sweetness accented by a light herbal bitterness.. a tad sour at the back-end. Lighter-bodied with lower carbonation.. decent balance.. this was a day-old growler, but I’m guessing that it’s better on tap.
