Commercial Description:
This black liquorice beer will treat the beer amateurs. The idea of the liquorice beer was born from the meeting with another beverage firm, in the region since 1898 : Antésite. The liquorice savour has found an echo with Vincent’s wish to create a black charismatic beer. It seems the intuition was good : the recipe was found from the first test. Brewed with some roasted malt and the root of the liquorice from Anthesite, its flavour will amaze you.

Near-black sepia with a thin eggshell head. Nose is old roast and light citrus fun, maybe some light lactose in there. Flavor is softer and better, orange and vanilla citrus underpinning a faintly roasted malt that is silky cream. Really silky body, but the finish is too short. Enjoyable, arguably unique, but neither ground-breaking or mind-blowing. More like a nice beer for a nice Tuesday evening.

Rich brown pour with spicy odour. Earthy, malty but not much liquorice. Still decent.

Deep brown-black beer with a creamy tan head. Aroma is quite sweet and malty with a softly peaty caramelly nose. Some toasted rye bread and lots of sweet maltiness. Flavour is quite complex. Tosted wheat and rye with lots of sweet/spicy graininess. There is also something else in here like toffee or peat. Some licorice and a dark treacle/molasses backnote. Quite a complex brew and also quite tasty.

Bottle. Light stout notes. Some roasty characters, with some sweet caramel and yeasty citrus notes, some toasty character towards the finish aswell, yeasty, carbonated finish.

A Mes rate: 33cl bottle at Chris O’s extravaganza. Not the most inviting looks wise being a murky mud brown. Chocolate orange aroma and flavour with some slight tartness. So so.

Bottled - Chris_O Fest March 07. A very dark brown coloured beer with off-white bubbles for a head. The aroma is chocolatey with brown bread and raisins. The taste is chocolatey but also fruity with some orange notes. Quite tasty really.
