4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Skyview (4880) - Papoose Jct, USA - NOV 20, 2009
UPDATED: DEC 27, 2009 Stevens Point version: The first packaged beer from Dave’s Brew Farm arrives in Minnesota. Picked up a 12-pack at Zipps in Minneapolis, MN. Pours a clear golden amber colored brew with a decent white head that has some nice retention and leaves behind a pillowy foam head. Some spotty lacing too. Aroma of golden grain malt, a hint of apple, some floral and spice hops and a touch of white bread. Taste is medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Flavors include some light apple, golden grain malt, a hint of allspice and some light Mozzarella. Why do all of the sudden have a craving for a Chicago style pizza? Finish is quite balanced with maybe a notch towards the sweet side. Mild bitterness at first and then a smooth aftertaste. Not your typical average macro-made lager and definitely not a lawn-mower beer. I can see this lager satisfy both the craft beer and lager drinking crowd.
Dave’s BrewFarm version: I had the opportunity to try the Select Golden Lager during the BrewFarm’s open house. Appearance semi-clear compared to the Stevens Point filtered version. Flavor is quite different. The BrewFarm version is much maltier, nearly full bodied, more fruit and definitely higher alcohol. Finish is semi-sweet with a little alcohol bite.

Live rate. An overweight, black cat is staring at me. The anger in her eyes is palpable. I’m drinking this straight from the can, as one should when their water has been turned off after not paying the bill for five months. The fat, black cat is still staring at me. I can feel her anger. Maybe she wants to be fed? Thankfully a thin pane of glass stands between her and I, and makes me feel safe from harm. As for the beer, it is damn good. If you want a great pale lager I can’t recommend this more. #shouldhavetickedthis #rateresponsibly

Can. Wow - outstanding for a pale lager. Dave, you gotta educate the big boys on how this is done. Husky grain and cereal notes, plus a bit of honey sweetness.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours a hazy golden color with a small white head. The aroma is sweet malts, grainy, bready, with just a splash of honey; pretty much what I would expect from a pale lager. The flavor is sweet malty, grainy, mild grassy notes with a hint of bitterness at the back. This turned out to be not as bad as I originally expected.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 FURLYSURIOUS (185) - Orono, Minnesota, USA - MAR 9, 2012
Poured from the can to a Leffe chalice, how fitting.
Pours a nice looking honey gold with a thin white cap that falls off quickly. Smells of lightly toasted grains, sweet bread, just enough hops to provide balance. All these notes carry through to the taste - refreshing, drinkable, spot on.

Quite malty in aroma and in flavor. Nutty, perhaps a bit sweet, with a smooth body and lingering finish.

BrewFarm Select
Golden Lager, All-Malt, 12 oz. can
Disembarks the can and boards the glass with hefty head holding firm on top, lacey and white, clear and golden-hued below.
Light, malty nose, cereal husk, with a little honey-ish sweetness. Lean and clean.
Taste: malt and water. Very clean, light, and just enough flavor from the malt, with a tidy little blast of hops, to keep it interesting. Incredibly easy to drink, with appreciable flavor.
Quality lager, all the way. I’m not typically a lager guy, but this is top-notch. Almost perfect.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 deyholla (3528) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 1, 2011
Can. Pours a clear deep gold with a white head that dissipates nearly completely to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of malts with notes of bread and wet grain with a hint of backing crisp hops. Flavor is mainly wet bread/grain with just a bit of hop presence. Nothing special.
