A - Pours a fairly bright hazy amber-brownish color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down to a ring around the glass leaving spots of lace behind. S - Aroma is equal parts citrus hops and sweet caramel malts. Some yeast in the background. Kind of mild. T - Starts off with some citrus hops (grapefruit flavor) and some light caramel malts. Through the middle some more hop flavor with some bitterness comes through. The finish is a mix of some pale malts and some citrus hops that lingers a bit. A bit subdued. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels a touch watery. Finish is nice and dry and crisp. D - Very drinkable. Could use a bit more flavor and some more hops for a DIPA. The flavors that are there are nicely balanced and the dry finish feels nice.

This was supposed to be their tough-boy IPA, but in the clean, upscale Glens Falls, that’d be too dramatic. And indeed, unlike some of my friends who came previously, I was not offered a hop monster. Orange and resin made up much of the aromatic components, but the dominating aspects in mouth at to be the malt’s cerealic aspects which were also gently fruity and surprisingly juicy. More carbonation would not have hurt. Resiny, earthy bitter finish remains approachable.

Pours a clear golden color with a thin white head. Aroma and flavor of resinous, piney and fruity hops but there’s not much of a malt presence.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2008 Was simply called Double IPA and was listed at 7%. Clear golden body with a very small white ring. Body is lacking in the malt department. Balance is clearly towards the hops. Hops flavour is 2/3 pine-tree 1/3 citrus fruit and offers a medium-high bitterness. Very little caramel or any malt flavour discernable. A bit watery. Yet another nice average typical American brewpub hop-fix. If there are two things you can expect to find in the USA it is nice well-hopped Double IPAs and nice greasy food. And a lot of drunk fat dudes too, but that’s only because a +b =c.

Had this on on draught in Glens Falls, New York. Dark golden in color and clear with a thick, slowly dissipating head, quite unusual for the style I thought. Nose of roses and hops, hops taste quite pronounced but well balanced, with notes of apples and pears, a very good IPA.

Poured a copper color with a smal, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, wood, nuts and citrus hops. Taste was full of caramel malts, more nuts, citrus, and finishing with bitter grapefruit hoppiness.

04.23.05 Tap at TAP NY. Amber pour. Big, lacing, lasting head. Aroma is weirdly lagery and grainy, diacetyl, grassy, maybe even saazy or at least along those lines. Pretty bland and not in a terribly interesting way. Tastes mostly like cardboard, wet grain, icky, with a dry bitterness to finish. Too bad.
