3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A - Pours a bark brown-black color with a big two fingers of thick brownish head. The head hangs around forever, finally reducing down to a still sizeable layer leaving lots of lace on the glass in the process.
S - Aroma is a mix of lots of roasted sweet caramel malts and some oats. There is also a touch of coffee and caramel in the background.
T - Starts off with some sweet roasted caramel malt flavor with some oats in the background. Through the middle some sweet milk flavor and some chocolate flavors come through. The finish is a mix of roasted caramel and coffee flavors that linger nicely.
M - Medium bodied with moderate-low carbonation. Feels super smooth and creamy. Finish is really creamy and roasty with some nice sweet notes.
D - Very drinkable. The nitro tap really creates an outstanding looking beer here. The flavors are all really nicely balanced and the beer feels really great.

On a nitro tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep black with brown highlights and a medium tanned head. Roast, chocolate, and malt on the nose. Creamy, but a little thin due to the nitro. Finishes with a long roast bitterness. Nice session stout.

Served a deep dark brown with a hint of ruby. A Lasting tight head graces the top of the sampler glass. To the nose it is sweet chocolate, the olfactory equivalent of a tootsie roll. Smooth and light on the tongue, this beer quickly wins me over with its subtle maltiness and subdued hops. An easy choice for a winter session beer. Has a pleasant roasty character without the burnt or bitter notes characteristic of some other examples of the style. On tap at the brewpub in Glens Falls.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Excellently balanced, sweet-at the start, bitter-at-the finish oaty stout; some nice wine qualities and hints of raisin, and a smoothness and luscious mouthfeel that continues even into the harder-than-expected finish. Well above average.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 27, 2004 (Draught) At Maxfields in Potsdam. Pours a beige, creamy head and an opaque body. Nose is cocoa and a mild skim milk. Fairly chocolaty yet TOO THIN. Above average.(Rated 3.2). What a difference drinking at the brewery makes. I only had this beer on draught a month ago in Potsdam and this drinking experience at the brewery was totally different. Medium, lasting brown head nad an opaque body. Bitter chocolate nose. Thin, very creamy and bitter chocolate. Lasting bitterness on the back of the palate. Tad oily. Very good (Rating 3.9)

Nuts playing with efficient roasted bitterness...Dark chocolate undertones in a well-fed body...Nothing to reinvent the wheel, but simply a very good stout on all levels...
