(Rating #4201)

MJGG (782) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 18, 2012

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2012 My Bottom Line:
Supremely toasty and honeyed, this Lithuanian Šviesus seduces with its quenching character enhanced by wooden hop bitterness and lightly citrusy angles.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the clear honey golden.
-Divinely malty throughout, hay and almond oil appear within the toastiness and honey.
-That toasted malt nose is amazingly distinctive.
-Carbonation is rather low, which is to be expected in these parts.
-Mouthfeel is polished and super smooth.
-Body is lean, yet full.

From bottles (3.8), and on tap at Alaus Namai (3.5), and at the brewery tasting room (4.1).

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2012 Tap (Davra Brewery) (6-:3-:6-:3:11-=2.9---- /> Lovely light grains, a touch of honey. Clean in the mouth, refreshing. A little lactic, and otherwise milky grains. Very well crafted, but a bit boring compared to the Linsmieju Vyruka.
Rerate of 330ml clear plastic bottle (Bambalyne, Vilnius) (5:2:4:2:8=2.1)
Smells of hot milk with some honey, a bit shocking initially. Clear plastic bottle really doesn’t sell this to me visually, 2’s generous. But it’s an OK gold with a tight white head and OK lacing. Milky buttery and sweet taste, just a lick of hops at the back of the mouth. Slick palate, that diacetyl sliminess in places. Finish is doughy - cake dough as much as bread dough. Way too sweet, and definitely with that Lithuanian quirkiness.

Small white head doesn’t last. Yellow body. Light funky earthy aroma with herbal floral notes. Dry-sweetish fruity grainy floral taste with sugary buttery notes. Mild, soft mouthfeel, faintly watery. Dryish dusty strawy aftertaste with buttery notes. Light, fresh, incredibly easy to drink, and subtle. Really nice. (0.5l draft, Alaus Namai, Vilnius.)

Draught at Alus Namai, Vilnius. Clear golden, airy hed. Aroma of ripe fruit and honey with slight boiled vegetables behind. Sweet and medium bodied, a bit sticky. Finishes with low bitterness. On the sweet side for me.
