COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ned at the brewery (and landlord of The Portcullis pub in Clifton Village, Bristol) has just got married to that pub’s landlady, Natz this April. He has designed this beer himself to mark the occasion. A fan of extreme craft beers, this ale has a vast quantity of malt and hops; our mash tun was be brim full! Rich and full-flavoured; an ale to savour. Caramel tones followed up with balanced hoppiness and a long finish. None of the cloying sweetness often found with strong ales; deceptively drinkable! What’s in it? Low Colour Maris Otter, Wheat, Crystal Malts from Warminster Maltings Cascade, Challenger whole hops from Charles Faram of Malvern Burtonised water, yeast, finings

Cask at the CASK Pub & Kitchen on 16th July 2010. Pale amber with very little head. Sweet fruity aroma – berry fruit with raspberry in the foreground. Citric and floral hop blend in main kick creating a sophisticated white-wine bouquet, rather like a Chardonnay. The floral notes rest on tongue and roof of mouth with a fairly fruity citric finish on a velvet creamy mouthfeel. Very interesting strong beer.

Half, cask. Near-clear, copper-amber body, tiny white head. Aroma of juicy malts and notes of alcohol. Taste of citric fruits and a kind of Belgian fruitiness with spices. Marmalade and rather jam-like. Bittersweet hops to the ending, on the sweet side. Vapour of alcohol. Heavy to drink. So and so (Cask Pub and Kitchen, London 15.07.2010)

Cask conditioned handpump Cask & Kitchen Pimlico. A copper coloured beer with a tight thick white head and lacing. I found this beer quite yeasty sweet and sugary and really Belgian accented. Nice alcohol and good depth. It’s tasty but a bit of a shock and quite different from its commercial description.

Cask, gravity at The White Horse, Hedgerley, 18th ’Coming of Age’ Beer Festival 29-05-10 Pours hazy orange amber no head with some fruit on nose in fact its a little like peeled citrus skins. Taste is indeed a bittersweet symphony, there is a very harmonious marriage of the bitter and sweet. I had this for my first beer on the Saturday Loz once again was on the Pictish Blue Moon, this wasn’t overawed by the Pictish beer, it lacked the aroma and appearance of the Pictish but it was a fuller beer in the mouth, some perfume, marmaladey like the Pictish but chewier. The only problem with this was it never quite stayed the distance, in the words of the Waterboys ’It came like a Comet blazing its trail’ but the intensity waned. Isobel (Lozs mum) described it thus, a flat looking beer but reasonable pleasant tasting with a citrus kick; A6 A3 T8 P4 Ov15 3.6

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 5/05/10. Amber coloured with a decent white head. Aroma of caramel, grapefruit and marmalade. Flavour of sweet malts, tropical fruit and a touch of spice, leading to a dry, warming alcohol finish with the hops lingering on. Very good.
